Texans plot twist
The #Texans’ interview with Lovie Smith for their head coaching job is expected to happen in the next 24 hours. So with Josh McCown seemingly out, the known candidates still standing in Houston are Brian Flores and Smith, who was 89-87 with 3 playoff trips in Chicago and Tampa.

So what's the attraction? That he never had a winning season at Illinois or that he's so old he'll have completely forgotten the previous weeks' loss by the next loss?
I'm sure some may suspect the Texans are looking for good publicity by hiring a black coach, but man they could have done better than this.
There's no attraction they are just so bad no one wants to coach there. They default to a guy cashing checks just like last season.

I like Lovie Smith. Took the Bears to a Super Bowl and did so with Angelo as GM. I think he’d be a good pick if he can get reasonable help on the personnel side.
@"JustinTime18™" said:Man that could be awkward. Lovie is being spun in a cringeworthy way.· 50mMike GarafoloAs for Josh McCown, who seemed to be the #Texans’ guy for much of their search, sources say there’s a possibility he could join Lovie Smith’s coaching staff, though those talks have yet to really happen. Pep Hamilton is expected to stick as offensive coordinator.
The Texans can't hire Josh McCown. They apparently won't hire Brian Flores. Enter eleventh-hour finalist and potential compromise candidate Lovie Smith. https://t.co/pyBym0wdkA

Why can’t they hire McCown…? Besides being grossly under qualified… ;)
Lovie (and Leslie) were beyond terrible in TB. It’s wild to me he’s getting another shot.

I said it earlier in the Harbaugh thread, but some guys are flat out good coaches and then some guys are good coaches in specific eras. Lovie was a good coach in the mid 2000s and that's about it. His time has passed but lucky for him, the Texans are so damn stupid that it made sense to them.
Worst hire of all the retread coaches. The Texans have hired a couple WTF's two years in a row now. Good for them...
