With Kwesi in the house it will be fascinating to see what we do with our bloated contracts in certain areas.
I'd have to think Barr is gone no mater who takes over.
I'd think they'll take a long look in the mirror on the Cook contract.  Is he a superstar..yes.  Will he be cut in 22..no.  Can you get similar results with midround draft picks??..probably
Does Cousins contract get renewed to lower his cap hit this year or do we rip the bandaid off and go in a new direction?
What happens with Thielen, Smith and Hunter?  Big cash sinks.  Are we getting our moneys worth?

He's got his work cut out for him. Cousins contract is like a lead anchor on the cap. Not sure what Kwesi will really be able to do to move the needle in Year 1. I think some fans are going to think he's a magician and will change things radically right out of the gate, I think his hands are tied for the short term.

I dont know about getting a mid round RB and having him be as productive as Dalvin. This year, for backs who ran for 1,000 yards or more, only 1/7 (Gibson) was drafted after the second round. Very slim chance Vikes will draft a RB in the top 3 rounds this year. Dalvin is a superstar, no doubt, but if he gets hurt again next year and misses more than 2 games I think they will have to take a hard look at him.

They have to restructure Thielen and Hunter. We all know about the options for Kirk. I'm not sure what they can or would do about Harrison's cap hit/contract. They may be able to convert some of Kendrick's to something?

It should be yard per attempt that we look at, not total yards correct?  If you have 3 RBs that all share time and each get 50 yards thats still 150/yard per game.
Dalvin was 9th in yards per attempt this year for running backs.  Pretty much the rest of the leaugs starters were within .4ish-.3ish of a yard per attempt.  So....is Dalvin worth his contract for an extra foot per attempt?

That could be another way to look at it, but there are many different measurables to analyze productivity and efficiency. Dalvin has never been below 4.5 ypc which pretty damn good. They might hit a diamond in the rough, just not sure that happens this year.

His contract ties us to him this coming year.

Right, but there is an out after 2023 correct? I may be looking at how to address Dalvin differently than you, sorry for the confusion

I looked again.  Dang Dalvin Tomlison and Dalvin Cook make it fun exercise.

In theory you could cut Cook in '22, '23 or '24 as a post June cut with about $3M in dead money.  He's on the books for '25 without cap consequences.

Our cap position is not bad at all. People are seriously blowing it out of proportion. Kirk’s $45m number of course is the elephant in the room and he knows that. In my opinion, his future is completely up to him. If he’ll do a new cap friendly contract you do it. He’s a top 10 QB and you can win with him if you have a decent defense. If a coach and/GM can’t win with Kirk Cousins then they need to be replaced in my opinion.
A couple of restructures and you’re in great shape.

Mainly to get under the cap, sure. The Vikes have basically one starting CB on the roster as Bynum is a Safety. Are they going to sign a quality corner? What about another quality LB? Well that will cost them. Spotrac has the 12th overall pick projected to count for $3.47 against the cap and i'd say the remaining draft class gets them to $7MM or so total, which is potentially a wash with a Thielen restructure.

It obviously can be done, just don't think the Vikes are going to be in great shape if they are really trying to compete at high level knowing where the talent gap is.

I dont consider pushing cap hits down the road when a players skills are likely declining to the point of it being a bad deal as a way to be in great shape.  yes they can make it work, but at what future cost.  everyone talks about the cap going up, but that doesnt hold water as there will be new contract  down the road that will be demanding that extra cap so pushing the cap him down the road is just vooodooo cap management.
