The Vikings hiring of Mensah is going to play BIG with the sports media. I mean huge. The organization is going to get kudos and affirmation as hiring the next big thing right now. Just sayin', watch and see. Doesn't mean shit in the grand scheme of winning games but Minnesota is going to win the media millennial battle with this hire in a big way.

I'm all for the Mensah hire but I'll say the NBA version of this is pretty much the Clippers. Media fawned over them nonstop. They have yet to win jack, despite lots of talent (on paper). EDIT: To add, I agree with you. I think he would be a very popular hire and the Vikings will get a media grace period of a few years.

If it's a step in the right direction then great. The only reason I care about it being big with sports media, if your prediction is true, is the Vikes need positive air time on ESPN, NBC Sports, etc. The Packers usually get that coverage so shifting that dynamic towards us is good.

Why does this matter?   Who gives a crap.  Give me wins.

More coverage means more fans means more people to comiserate with when the Vikings inevitably Vikings it up every year. So it’s a good thing. Of course, wins are better. Agreed.

Forgive my ignorance but I haven't followed basketball lately. What did the Clippers do and how is this similar? Just curious.

Owner came from Microsoft and took the front office in a strong analytics approach. They made some outside-the-box hires including Lee Jenkins, who was an NBA writer for Sports Illustrated at the time. They churned the roster over quickly and got the media darling treatment for a few years, until they fell apart in the playoffs the past 2 seasons. Now they're pretty much back to being "the clippers" in the public's eyes.

Gotcha....Well, I think it's the right direction to go in. But obviously, no one direction is going to be successful 100% of the time. And those nerdy analytics guys you just hired? They'd be the first ones to tell you that. :-)

Obviously wins is all that matters, but when we are in a small market some times that additional coverage helps attract better players, it helps with motivation when players know they are being talked about more often. It's a psychology thing that could lead towards more wins
