The #Vikings are now expected to work to hire #Browns executive Kwesi Adofo-Mensah as their next GM, sources say. He’s the final finalist and they have been interviewing him again.

He's in the hizzhouse until 5 pm. This was laid out in the back of the limo when he was picked up from the airport:

You know he was playing Wordle on his phone -- hopefully on hard mode.

I like it. Better than I thought I would. I like that he won't pretend to be a "scout," per se, but will lean on his staff for that. We were never going to find a better drafter than Spielman anyway, so someone who can rebuild the culture and utilize the existing staff to his advantage would be the next best thing.

I like the direction (choosing a nerd over a bubba). Like it or not, that's the future. I also like what he said in this presser below... As everyone knows, I'm a big "WHY" guy. So I'm happy to hear him say that too. And one more thing I love..."you need an aggressive mindset to win on the margins in every aspect of football operations." So not just play calling but personnel decisions as well.

From Browns presser... "I think my background was a positive because I did not have any preconceived notions or biases," Adofo-Mensah said Thursday in a video conference call with local reporters. "When I sat in a room with great evaluators that I have been around in San Francisco, I just took everything they told me. I tried to find the intuition behind it. I ask 'why' a lot. You will find that out about me. I wanted to know even the most simple question. You might think it is simple, but I am building the complex bridge that will get me somewhere complex.  ....Adofo-Mensah is adamant he won't be quibbling with a scout's opinion of a player. That's not his area of expertise. Instead, he'll collect and assess the various opinions from the Browns' player personnel staff and help the group arrive at the soundest possible decisions.
"My job is going to be another person who knows enough about everybody's point of view to come together and make a good decision," Adofo-Mensah said. "That is where I see my role... "It takes talent to win in this league. It takes great coaching. It takes great development. It takes a lot of great things. Seeing that up close and knowing that you need an aggressive mindset to win on the margins in every aspect of football operations is an invaluable experience I will never be able to replicate."

Sounds like he's great candidate. Now let's work on getting that HC.

With Adofo-Mensah having worked under Andrew Berry, I’m curious if he brings in Catherine Raiche as his number two. She impressed the Vikings in her interview and his former boss worked with her in Philly. It would be a promotion for Raiche so it wouldn’t be blocked

With Poles to Chicago it looks like Kwesi Adofo-Mensah could be the next Vikings GM. Obvious HC candidates become Mike McDaniels or DeMeco Ryans

KAM likely means Bowles out, per NFL network

If Minnesota did this, it would be so awesomely progressive. I'd love it personally. Just as long as everyone knows it a culture of accountability. This isn't some entitled bullshit. Earn it by kicking ass. Show the other dinosaurs in the NFL that it can be done differently and then you truly WIN.

I’m really excited. Kwesi is the closest person I’ve seen to being wired like myself, so I’ve really been hopeful he gets his shot. He’s described by analytics, but I don’t think that’s him. He’ll be an evidence/fact based guy and in my mind that is absolutely essential in a league deluged by ism’s. That’s more than just numbers. It’s about intertwining everything to get a full picture. It’s not forgetting context in the grand scheme of evaluation and data crunching.
Now I can’t wait to learn who the new coach will be!

That's how my son is wired: analytical, fact-based, numbers oriented. Physics degreed. Listens first, talks second. When he has an opinion, its been well researched and vetted. Soft spoken but carries a big intellectual stick in debate. Strong vocabulary. When I give Dad advice, I best bring my A-game because it will be very politely yet summarily dismissed if it is not up to the standard. Love it.

The Bears' hire of Ryan Poles as GM leaves Browns VP of football operations Kwesi Adofo-Mensah as the clear leader for the Vikings GM job. Adofo-Mensah just so happens in Minneapolis right now for his second interview.

Dominos falling.

 Being a contrarian:

Mensah was with the 49'ers in Research, so he knows Ryans from when he joined the 49'ers in 2017.  Mensah joined the Browns in 2020 as the VP of player operations.
while Ryans is finishing up his first year as a DC after Saleh went to be HC with the Jets.

If the Vikings go with the Mensah/Ryans combo I would not be overly thrilled to be honest.  But I am just throwing darts along with the rest of us and the Wilf's know what they want to create.

Mensah has 2 years of Executive exp and 7 years as a R&D guy for the 49'ers - not even sure what that position was?
Ryans has 1 year as a DC.

Youth and inexperience IMO.
