Or is that not enough of a clean break from the past??

Rob Brzezinski enters his 29th season in the NFL and 23rd with the Minnesota Vikings in 2021. Brzezinski serves as Executive Vice President-Football Operations and provides the Vikings broad-based management expertise and the value of being one of the most experienced NFL executives in the modern (post 1992) Collective Bargaining Agreement era.

Brzezinski has been with teams that have finished .500 or better in 20 of his 28 NFL seasons and has been part of 13 playoff seasons.
The Vikings benefit from Brzezinski's extensive knowledge and strategic salary cap management and a philosophy that has aided in the retention of core players, the addition of key free agents and the overall talent and depth of the team. As the Vikings lead contract negotiator Brzezinski has negotiated contracts totaling more than $1 billion including high-profile contracts for players such as Randy Moss, Steve Hutchinson, Jared Allen, Brett Favre, Adrian Peterson and Kirk Cousins. Brzezinski joined the Vikings in 1999 as Director of Football Administration and was promoted to Vice President of Football Administration in 2001. He was elevated to his current position as Executive Vice President-Football Operations in 2014.

I much prefer a guy/gal who has come up either on the pro or college scouting side. If we promote from within, I would have kept Spielman.

I think whoever we get, the job responsibilities might change and the department may very well expand. I wouldn't mind seeing a new GM more tuned into figure out how to stay ahead of the trends of the game in managing the coaching and scouting personnel and delegating more resources to develop the roster for the eventual HC according to to the agreed upon building philosophy. It's why guys like Adofo- Mensah are being considered the future.

He was part of the t.o.a. at one time which did not survive for so many obvious reasons.

I also recall talk from beat writers years ago about how he wanted into the football ops side of things, g.m.hopeful, etc., but it became clear he wasn't cut out for it.  Rob is a very good accountant, not a g.m. in the making.
