Made the mistake of looking at his PFF ranking yesterday, ugh. I realize it's not everything and not always right, but I have seen a decent amount of Chiefs games and have seen Mike make a good amount of plays. Bittersweet

He just wasn't very good when he did play for the Vikes, I thought.  I do admit I thought Breeland would be better than Hughes, but not so sure now.

The Vikings cornerbacks: - PP, MA & BB have PFF coverage ranks of 128th, 192nd, and 185th. - Those three starting CBs allow 140 coverage yards per game, second most. - Vikings rank 31st in WR yards allowed. - Vikings rank 29th in WR TDs allowed.

I'm so glad to be dead inside.

It was a dumb trade and most here thought so at the time. Selling low on a guy at a position of need right when he was finally healthy.

The Herndon trade has been a bust as well.

In fairness the Cole deal however has worked out much better than I’d have thought.

I like Rick as a drafter even taking into consideration his annoying penchant for trading down. But, his non-draft acquisitions are real head scratchers.

Granted it was only 7 career starts, but I dont recall talent being the issue with a healthy Huges when he was here.  Dude missed 25 of a possible 49 games in Minnesota. He is a physical corner that plus three straight years of significant injuries I cant fault Rick for moving on. Adding Breeland on the other hand absolute dumpster fire.

I do realize his injury history and the concern about it. Sometimes a fresh start helps.

For all the handwringing about Hughes he isn't really playing all that much better now than he did in 2019. AKA the only stretch of relative health he had as a Viking. The dude missed 25 of a possible 49 career games in MN. Back to back years was shut down due to a serious neck injury, literally broke his neck.

Stats are cool but the bottom line is he’d be starting for us and he’d have a case as our best CB. Rick sent him packing for less than peanuts. Like… just peanut shells.

Really brave stance there,  way to put yourself out there. If only Rick shared your hindsight powers I'm sure he would have got more.
Peanut shells? Bless your heart. Hughes tore his ACL and broke his neck in back to back seasons. Then reinjured the neck the following year.
Throw in for good measure being so drunk he puked all over a teammates car during an OWI stop. And a sexual assault allegation.  Yep teams would have lined up to trade him for a 3rd round pick to a better GM.

Meh, I am done with short DBs,  the receivers seem to be getting bigger all the time and the range that these diminutive corners give up gets taken advantage of,  just like hand size for QBs,  or arm length for OL,  there needs to be a metric for size and jumping ability to help size up coverage players,   if they don't have the size they need to be able to jump out of the stadium ( with pads on ) imo.

another way to Ponder this:

KC has owned the NFC this year:

beat Iggles
beat WFT
beat NYG
beat GB
beat Cowgirls

beat every NFC team theyve played, to our potential playoff benefit

Ricks a genius!

It's just too early to make a judgement on that. It's like drafting a player with character concerns who does well his 1st season. People think they got a steal, but the character concerns are always there.

If Hughes cleans up his act and stays healthy, then good for him. And good for the Chiefs. But Hughes was traded for a reason. It might take a year or two to accurately evaluate this trade.

Should of never traded him. Not that he is a great player but when you consider the investment in him in contrast to what we got in trade return, the smart play would have been to keep him and roll the dice on the neck. He is proving in KC that he would have been worth the risk

Yep. It’s not hindsight. Most people thought this the day it was announced, and still think it now. I also think that for the low price KC paid, it’s already been a good move for them. Sure it may look even better in 2 years but as of today they got there money’s worth, IMO.

Hopefully Rick does something solid with the pick we got.

Couldn’t stay on the field. Why risk keeping him for a maybe he’ll stay healthy this time?

Good for him that he’s doing better health wise this year.
