Line Grades through 4 Games

Much more goes into analyzing a player’s performance than just an overall PFF grade, but they provide a relatively accurate barometer of how the player is doing, and it’s fun to check in every once in a while. So after the first four weeks of the season, here’s how the Vikingsoffensive line stacks up:
  • LT Rashod Hill: 39.3 (71st/73 tackles)
  • LG Ezra Cleveland: 57.2 (51st/75 guards)
  • C Garrett Bradbury: 54.7(26th/33 centers)
  • RG Oli Udoh: 68.5 (25th/75 guards)
  • RT Brian O’Neill: 67.7 (31st/73 tackles)
The biggest takeaway here is clearly the performance of Hill. Aside from a penalty-heavy season opener, he’s actually done a pretty decent job. But as I noted a couple of weeks ago, his athleticism is a liability long-term, and Sunday was a perfect example of that.
Not many tackles will look good facing Myles Garrett, but the Vikings have an athletically gifted tackle in Christian Darrisaw who has the talent to match top-end pass rushers when he’s fully healthy. The sooner he can play, the better.

Yeah Hill certainly didn't respond well to Darrisaw getting his snaps in practice.

Sad, the line looked like it was gelling after the seahawk game.

Brutal

Whats crazy is how close they came to winning some of those games in spite of those OL statistics.

We have the talent to go 9-4, but with our schedule its a tough sell. If we lose another game at home, that could be the dagger for us.

When we look back on this season, it could be a familiar refrain with a backbreaking loss to the cards with a gimme FG

As a long time believer in Oli, I am glad to see he is ranked just on the edge of top 3rd of guards in the league.  He will only get better.

Cleveland will get better, the LT position could be significantly better.  If they can find a center next year from Davis or a vet FA this can be a very good line for years to come

We’ve invested heavily, they need to payoff.  if they live up to their draft status, Mond may look good behind them in 2 years.

What needs to happen for us to see Davis at Center? Bradbury injury is the only way I can think the Vikes give him a try

Keep in mind who they were playing... probably the best DL in the entire NFL.  The Browns have done this to just about every team they've faced this year so far.   I have a feeling the Vike's OL will be much better this week and looking very much like a dominating OL we saw vs the Squawks.

Well at some point we need to consistently play well against good DLine.  Our offense can't implode every time we face a good DLine.

Yes, our line needs to gel and it really exposed that Darrisaw needs to replace Hill.  So it was a good wake up call.

It's the same old tiresome story of inadequate  personnel. Hill will never be an above average NFL lineman. OK as a backup but not a starter. Bradbury doesn't have the lead in his ass to anchor against NFL defensive tackles.
The other three have potential to be good. Bradbury is the second high draft pick center in a row that hasn't worked out so well. That's not just bad coaching.
The offense is actually pretty good despite having 60% of an average line.
I watched the Bucs the other night and marveled at all the time Brady had to throw. I also watched their defense and the Vikings defense doesn't come close to resembling them.

Though many here seem to think the Vikings have an abundance of talent, they don't.
Player evaluation is as big a problem as coaching.

Unfortunately, I'd be surprised if he's ready before the bye.

Despite his PFF grade, Hill played fairly well against Seattle and Arizona. Sure, he got help from Cleveland, but that's what OL's are supposed to do. An aided successful rep isn't graded positively by PFF. It's not negatively graded either though.

i don't really care about the PFF grades.  he was abused by Garrett.  Our whole line got their ass kicked in that game.  I agree, Stephanski's familiarity with our offense, with Kirk, really hurt us in that game.

I wonder how this happened, did Garrett sprain his ankle stepping on Hill after he plowed over him?

Cleveland Browns defensive end Myles Garrett (knee/ankle soreness), ... defensive end Jadeveon Clowney (elbow),
