Get em! :p   I wouldn't be surprised to learn that Smith has some degenerative issues with his knee as long as it took him to return to action.

I was scratching my head about this move last night. I think it isnt a health thing as they just paid him a boatload in 2019 so they would have likely done all of their due diligence about his knee. They like Parsons and Vanderesch. I wonder if they also like Jabril Cox? We certainly should have taken him over Suratt

They also signed Keanu Neal and moved him to LB. Wasn't Smith playing well as recently as 2019 or so? Thought the timing of this was odd.

That's right, they did sign Keanu Neal. Yes, Jaylon was playing really well so maybe its a new scheme thing? He hasn't been playing so well this year from what I read

I was just listening to NFL radio and they had a Cowboy insider on. He basically said last year's scheme and DC (Nolan) were awful fits and Quinn is a much better fit for the team. But I guess for whatever reason the change didn't help Smith.

You have to wonder why these players were released and not traded. So no team was willing to give up even a 7th rounder for either of these guys? That says a lot.

Gilmore was officially traded for a 2023 6th round pick. We got a TE that doesn't see the field for what, a 4th rounder? So that's neat

OK, so a 6th round pick in 2023, which is equivalent to a 7th round pick in 2022. Sounds like NFL teams aren't expecting much from Gilmore and his torn quad. We'll see I guess.

Smith had guarantees against injury in his contract. Last offseason he had wrist surgery which guaranteed his 2021 salary. Like wise if he were to get injured this season, his 2022 salary would become guaranteed. With his reduced role & the apparent inability to trade him, they made the business decision to release him.
