The poison that has a hold on society

Social media has extremes. It can be a cesspool and it can raise awareness. Terrorist groups use it to spread lies and propaganda and people use it for good. I watched a tiktok where money was raised to get an older military vet get a scooter. He was crying because he was so overwhelmed. I saw a woman helped out of a domestic violence situation. The younger people growing up as the social media generation are having higher rates of depression.
The body image issues are definitely exacerbated by social media. There is also the look at me, look at me aspect. It's like some people are not really living their lives but living a life or an idea of a life through social media. There are also some batshit adults that complain about everything online or are captured online complaining especially about wearing a mask in a store or harassing someone about being in a certain neighborhood even though they live there.
I am fascinated by the generational differences in the response to social media. Social media has been a lifeline for some during COVID because of lockdowns. Seeing how different parts of the world united was encouraging but seeing how politicized and divided mask wearing and vaccines are is frustrating. Social media has been a platform for people feeling discriminated against. The video of George Floyd on social media helped lead to a conviction. There are also predators on social media. It is definitely a powerful force for both good and bad.
It went beyond the money for the scooter now.
