Steelers/Vikings
Vikings are 12th in NFL payroll this year at $201.5 million. Steelers are 25th with $180.5 million. Steelers have 4 new offensive lineman including 2 rookies. Steelers are without Stephon Truitt one of their best defensive lineman. The Steelers beat Buffalo.
Just sayin.
The Wilf's sure do provide this team with the resources for better success that is for sure.
I wonder if they are Little River Band fans because I think it maybe "Time for a Cool Change"
KC, LAC, SEA all appear to have fixed their OL in one offseason. PIT maybe too. I like most of what Spielman has done here but the OL issue is far and away his most damning and inexplicable critique.
Weren't you the one saying Buffalo would blow us out if we reached the Super bowl? But now I guess they are going 0-17 based on week 1.
2021 salary cap is $182.5m, to borrow your words, no idea what you’re talking about.

why s everyone over reacting to week 1 ? for gods sake mellow out. in fact, wont be until week 4 or 5 until we know the real story about all teams!! Geesh!!
A Viking loss seems to open the door for the posters who don't like Rick as a GM, Zim as a head coach or Cousins as the quarterback and never have. Either they didn't agree with the draft picks over the years, the large contract that Cousins got or simply the game plans of Zimmer with his run first offense. Whatever the reasons after every loss, the naysayers will feel justified they know what's best for the team and how the organization should be ran.
Because if it takes them until week 4 or 5 to know who they are it’s too late. This isn’t MLB where you play 162 games. I want a team like Pittsburgh that is consistently a double digit win team perennially in the playoffs.
Yesterday I was called out by Kentis for not knowing what I was talking about. He referred to the $182.5 salary cap. The cap is the accounting methodology used to allocate salary and bonuses. There is no limit as to how much cash a team spends in a year. See link below for 2021 cash spend

I guess I don't understand what the point of this thread is. Who cares what the payroll is? Different teams spend different amounts in different years depending on how they split up their players contracts between bonuses and salary. You sign a bunch of new players and give them guaranteed money up front, you have a big payroll that one year. You are further into the contracts and you're just paying base contracts, it's probably smaller. If the argument is that the Vikings spend more on non-player payroll, I think you'd have to break that out separately.

Geesh!!Slow starts are typically a good indicator of a team that fails to have a successful season. Looks like it goes to 0-2 this weekend. Then home for the Seahawks and Browns, this could easily be an 0-4 team if they play like they did this last weekend against a team we were favored to beat and is a perennial cellar dweller. Last year was a mess, this year has started now better, tell me again where to find the optimism when looking at a team that is just recycling what it's been doing for the past decade. Some fans, myself included think that if you try something and it doesn't work there is a time to pull the plug, many pf us are at that point with Cousins and Zimmer.
Agreed. Zimmer should cherish that Super Bowl ring he got in Dallas because he’ll never get another one.

I'll speak for myself after 45+ years of being a diehard fan.
I jumped off the Zimmer bandwagon (and defending him) after Philly a few years ago - he is a very average coach and I don't think we need more years of proof.
I jumped off the Cousins bandwagon (and defending him) after this preseason. He is not a leader of men on or off the field. He is a weirdo. I used to say he was good enough with all the pieces, I no longer think that.
I am still a supporter of Spelly and I do think he is a Top 10 GM overall. But you wonder if he is tied to Zimmer and Cousins and the Wilf's decide to go in another direction with a clean slate?
Now everyone is saying some of us are over reacting after 1 game but many of us were indicating this after game 1 last season, then game 2 last season, then game 3 last season.
I am extremely interested in this next game to see how we play. Not even win/lose but play. Are the players tired of Zimmer and his schemes and scapegoating? I think we will see in the way we prepare, execute, and the effort/grit we show on the field both mentally (penalties) and physically.

I left Spielman out of my reply as I dont think Zimmer was his hire, I think he was a will via bog tuna hire. At this point spielman needs a chance to hire his coach and give him 2 or 3 years before a new GM iMO, but he needs to improve on his first round hit rate though.
Zimmer and Speilly are better than average but its time to show us the baby.
I have stuck by these guys for years and still have hope , but if you cant build a consistent winner in 5-7 years you need to start looking hard for potential upgrades

Honestly this. I don't think Zimmer gets fired during the season, but he should be at the point after 7 years that there's some kind of stable foundation and perennial playoff team built. He's the longest tenured NFL coach without a Super Bowl win, I believe?
Just one game played, I'm reserving judgement until after the 4th game.
