Not built to throw
Zimmer mentioned several times how the Vikings had to throw the ball 49x b/c penalties had them backed up in unfavorable D/D, thus having to abandon their run-heavy identity. "You put yourself in a bad situation where you have to throw the ball, and that’s now how we’re built."

We don't have a QB that's good enough to win a game by himself and our OL certainly isn't capable of keeping him clean enough to throw that much. We're built for a balanced offense where we can run the ball and use the screen game with our best offensive weapon (Cook) and take deep play action shots with Thielen and Jefferson. You guys are reading way too much into his comments. In all my years of watching football, I've never seen a QB win by himself. In fact, Brady is closest...but, he typically had an amazing line in front of him, a staunch defense, and managed to work up some serious partners in crime (Edelman, Gronk, etc). One thing that should've been made very clear on Sunday: even "golden boi Erin" looks pretty beatable when his line is iffy, and that's true of every QB. For all Favre's vaunted heroics, he was 1-1 in SB visits and never got back after the loss. Erin is a decade out from his last one. Wilson is almost as far removed from his, and hasn't been back since the "Legion" trickled away.
Mahomes barely got the win over Cleveland, and he leans HARD on Hill. Jackson lost to a pocket passer, last night, and two of the most famous pocket passers are brothers with 2 rings each...and were "Manning" the game last night.
I kinda laugh at the "get a mobile QB, get a ring" babble...because there's been a lot of mobile QBs, but they still need solid o-lines to win big games. Ask Mahomes how his last Superbowl went, ditto for Wilson, ditto for Newton.
Here's the fuggin' formula: good players, consistently, across the board, with excellent coaching.
You and Havoc can keep defending Cousins and blaming everyone else but him when he doesn't play well. Me? I'll keep calling it how I see it. Everyone blaming our OC and Zimmer for throwing short of the sticks to Thielen on 3rd down... go watch it again. Cousins leads him to the ground instead of putting it where he can run two yards for the first down. Kirk's placement on that throw was what led to it being short of the sticks. But keep eating Kirk colored crayons, seems like you enjoy the taste. If anyone is even somewhat critical of Cousins or points out instances where he didn't play well, the Kirk Klan comes out and bashes anyone that has a reasonable take on him. You can die on that sword, I've jumped off his bandwagon after 3 years of watching him.

So 17 penalties, crappy o-line play, unimaginative offensive play calling, and a defense that couldn't stop Mixon or Chase didn't have anything to do with the outcome? Seems you were pretty zeroed in. Cousins didn't play good enough to pull the team out of the ditch, but he also didn't lose the game for the team. "Kirk Klan"...hmmm.

Well, you didn't manage to name a QB able to "win by himself", or mention things like exactly how deep a dysfunctional hole our offense (and yes, Cousins) had to claw out of...time and time again.I agree with those that think it's partially due to not enough preseason playing, and I'd add that our coach is determined to throw our QB under the bus while breezing past bigger problems.
I've never called Cousins perfect, but I'll call out the "fans" that blame him for essentially everything, and will bring up with W/L record while ignoring shitshow defenses/olines.
So, keep munching your waxy rainbow, sparky...but leave the Crayolas for the kids.
Kirk Cousins had an average pocket time of 2.59 Seconds. This was the same as Ryan Tannehill vs ARI. Vikings have to fix that OL fast

At the end of everyone's career, Cousins will be a .500 QB making the playoffs every few years, and the top QBs are closer to .650 making the playoffs most years. The supporting factors average out over time.

Even then Qirk's groupies will say that he didn't have enough support (despite having a premier WR duo, premier RB, and top 5-10 defense in 18' and 19'). That he never had an OL.ANY QB CAN BE GREAT (Foles, Jimmy G, Kap, Eli, Dilfer, Flacco, Brad Johnson, the skeleton of Peyton) with a good OL, great weapons, and a great defense.
Qirk has made more money and had more support than 90% of NFL QB's during his time here and produced a Wild Card win

A wild card win, on the road, against the Brees-led Saints...in case you forgot.Look at the line ratings of qbs in "great" seasons, and you'll rarely to never find line ratings in the bottom quarter it the league.
Oh, ours is 26th after week 1, but Cousins had the 351, 2, and no turnovers. Meanwhile, our D pissed away 24, then another 3 in OT. Every WR wants to play against Breeland right now.
When I see a similar level of frustration at the players who truly fail to produce, it'll be less ridiculous...but damn, it's bizarre how Cousins gets all this vitriol when we have a CB burned for as many scores as Cousins threw...and also missed the most tackles in week 1.
It's...stupid.

Just looked up PFF on our o-line in 2019. See if this sounds painfully true, today:"PFF Data Scientist Timo Riske discussed the success that the Vikings have had in protecting Kirk Cousins due largely to scheme and how they could be in store for regression in the coming weeks given their 24th-ranked pass-blocking grade at the time. In Week 16 against the Packers, Cousins was under pressure on 47.2% of his dropbacks (fourth-highest rate that week) and has managed just 35 passing yards on his 17 pressured dropbacks. As a unit, the Vikings’ offensive line now ranks just 27th

The following also occurred during that loss to Chicago:"Diggs had to be
calmed down at one point during the game last weekend during yet another
stifling performance by Chicago’s defense that limited Thielen to 6
yards on two receptions, and Thielen was vocal afterward about his
frustration. Cousins even apologized to him on a team-produced podcast
for overthrowing a deep pass on third down in the first half after
Thielen got behind the secondary for what would have been a touchdown.
Zimmer’s
desire to run the ball more effectively and frequently this year has
minimized to date the route-running and pass-catching talents of Thielen
and Diggs, which can be dismissed if the ground game leads to wins. But
the Vikings (2-2) are in last place in a daunting NFC North, with the
second-fewest passing yards per game in the league."

Kirk Cousins an MVP candidate@"DeepFreeze05" said: Here's an article posted nearly two years ago (30 Sep 19): Adam Thielen challenges Vikings offense: 'You have to be able to throw the ball' The Vikings offense was nonexistent as Dalvin Cook was shut down by the Bears defense."The Chicago Bears defense made sure the Minnesota Vikings knew their game plan early, shut down Dalvin Cook and make Kirk Cousins beat them. Cook was held to 14 carries for 35 yards and a touchdown as the Vikings were held to just 40 rushing yards, putting the game on Cousins' shoulders. The Vikings quarterback did not rise up to the challenge, finishing 27-of-36 for 233 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions in a 16-6 loss to the Bears."https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/adam-thielen-challenges-vikings-offense-you-have-to-be-able-to-throw-the-ball/
...and yet no mention of the o-line or porous defense preventing the fan's wet dream of any QB rising to the mystical challenge...amazing.
"The Minnesota Vikings aren't one-dimensional anymore thanks to Cousins,
who has revived the team's passing game following a rough September. He
has thrown for 976 yards, 10 touchdowns, only one interception and has
completed 75.6% of his passes in October."https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2019/10/24/you-like-this-kirk-cousins-an-mvp-candidate/40408245/
October 31, 2019: Kirk Cousins named NFC Offensive Player of the Month, Thielen Returns to Practice"Since issuing a public apology to Adam Thielen, all Kirk Cousins has
done is put up some of the best numbers in the NFL in getting the
Minnesota Vikings four straight wins."https://www.fox9.com/sports/kirk-cousins-named-nfc-offensive-player-of-the-month-thielen-returns-to-practiceNovember 19, 2019: Kirk Cousins deserves his name in the MVP talks"Cousins has had his ups and downs in
Minnesota, but statistically speaking he is on pace to not only have a
great season, but also have one of the best seasons in Vikings history.
It is time to negate the narratives that hang over Cousins head, and put
his name alongside the other candidates for MVP of the 2019 season."https://vikingswire.usatoday.com/2019/11/19/kirk-cousins-vikings-mvp/
November 19, 2019: StaTuesday: It's time to consider Vikings' Cousins an NFL MVP candidate
"Since Minnesota’s 28-10 victory over the New York Giants on Oct. 6 — a
win that launched the Vikings’ current 6-1 stretch into the bye —
Cousins tops all quarterbacks in touchdowns (18), passer rating (126.5)
and passes of 50+ yards (4) and ranks second in yards (2,021) as well as
passes over 20 yards (31) and yards per attempt (9.1).
Cousins has tossed 177 passes without an interception, the longest active streak in the NFL.
On the season, Cousins leads the league in passes over 50 yards, ranks
second in touchdowns and passer rating and comes in at fifth in yards.
He ranks ahead of Rodgers and Watson in just about every category" https://www.foxsports.com/north/story/statuesday-minnesota-vikings-kirk-cousins-nfl-mvp-candidate-111919November 24, 2019: Cousins checks of all of the boxes during extended run of strong play
"As the Vikings reach their
off week as one of seven NFL teams with at least eight wins, it’s easy
to forget how tenuous it all seemed at the end of September, when Adam
Thielen vented about the Vikings’ lack of passing success in the locker
room at Soldier Field, and Stefon Diggs incurred more than $200,000 of
fines for skipping several days of meetings as his frustrations with the
offense bubbled over.In
the Vikings’ only loss since then, to Kansas City in Week 9, they
allowed a 91-yard touchdown run and fell by a field goal as time ran
out. Cousins’ name has crept into MVP conversations, as the result of a
seven-game run in which he’s completed 73.3% of his passes for 2,020
yards and 18 touchdowns against one interception." https://www.startribune.com/vikings-kirk-cousins-checks-off-all-of-the-boxes-during-extended-run-of-strong-play/565387642/?refresh=trueDecember 19, 2019: 15 NFL surprises nobody saw coming in 2019, from Lamar Jackson's rise to crummy kicking
- Kirk Cousins would be a down-ballot MVP candidate"At the very least, if Cousins' inconsistent 2018 and frustrating start
to 2019 were evidence that his presence doesn't guarantee the Vikings a
playoff berth, what has happened since is a reminder that his ceiling is
higher than his critics suggest. Cousins has been one of the league's
most lethal quarterbacks over his past 10 outings."https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28325921/15-nfl-surprises-saw-coming-2019-lamar-jackson-rise-crummy-kicking
