Ooh there's a reality check. He definitely put a target on his back with that statement. Not that the target wasn't there but he shined a light on it.

ok,,, hit on a bear aside,  in todays NFL what the fuck was that defender trying to there?  I am usually the one defending the tackler,  but that was complete bush league shit.  Nobody gets to the NFL as a defender trying to tackle that high, that is not taught at any level, ever as good technique.  I dont know who that player was but he should be out for a year at least.

I disagree that he should be out for the year.  I think he tried (not real hard) to go head to the chest but Fields dropped his body a bit.

Dunno what the defender should have done different in the split second.  You drop your head you risk missing the tackle.  Fields is a big guy, you get cute and he slips out of your grasp.

you go for the mid line,  he attacked the head/neck area,  you are never taught to try and tackle the shoulder pads.  and Fields didnt really try and avoid the hit and he still got him in the head,  imagine if he had ducked a bit at the last second.  the defender also had an easy strip sack there for the taking and made no effort to get the ball out.  IMO that was text book trying to take the player out of the game and deserves a long suspension.  reminds of that steeler LB that tried pretty much every tackle looked like an attempt to injure.

I agree, he certainly could have tried harder to go low, but I think he was trying a bit, but came up with the tackle and Fields dropped down a bit.

Bears quarterback Justin Fields has experienced a few NFL firsts since the start of the preseason, including his first shot to the head from a defensive player.
Fields lost his helmet on the hit, which led to both a fumble and a flag for roughing the passer that negated the play entirely. He shrugged it off as no big deal after the game, but the NFL has fined Smith $5,806 for the blow.
There were also three fines issued in the Raiders-Rams game from last weekend. Raiders quarterback Nathan Peterman and Rams defensive back J.R. Reed were each fined $5,556 after picking up unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for an altercation after Reed took Peterman out of bounds at the end of a 24-yard run.
The other fine went to former Raiders cornerback Rasul Douglas. He drew a $5,500 fine for unsportsmanlike conduct and then got cut loose by the Raiders two days later. Douglas has since signed with the Texans.

Fields has had a very good showing this preseason and will be starting sooner then later.  I think he was a steal at 10 and in almost any other draft (this was loaded) at QB he would have been a Top 5 pick easy.
