I think it kind of speaks to his mental state in regards to his opinion of himself and perhaps his game and coachability. Lack of humility often makes learning kind if difficult.Or he's just really religious and liked the reminder to his folks that he is their gift from God.... :p
Well, heres hoping he can change and become a serious weapon on offense with his size and speed
Hodges sounds like he may lack humility, but...the job description of NFL Coach could be, "Dealing with men in their 20s who have been told they were entitled superstars since they were 6 years old, many of whom make more money than you and know it". I'm sure our coaches love the humble good-old-boys, but they won't fill a quality roster if they can't manage a fair number of inflated egos. Hodges is a 6th-round rookie, so no big deal, but hopefully his tattoos or cocky comments in interviews had nothing to do with waiving him.

( ie: maziel as an extreme example) but if Bucky honestly thought that his game was pro ready and took any coaching as a personal attack (not saying he did, just saying) then it would speak to why they decided to bring in other help and risk losing him.
or maybe that concussion is pretty bad and they couldnt hold the roster spot indefinitely?

and this is what I am thinking too. hmmm coachability...got a couple of workers with the same issue right now. My take is not to coach them, but get rid of them. They WON"T, not can't, learn.

i had heard a comment in an interview with him in the last few months that had me wondering about his attitude. at the time it seemed pretty minimal, but then after seeing his "GODS GIFT" tat and hearing that he might have an attitude problem... makes me wonder I guess.
I feel like we’re speculating a lot about Hodges. Is there any evidence suggesting that his
attitude/behavior/performance is the driving factor for his release/IR status
as opposed to just his concussion?
Just seems weird that he initially made the team, then after finding Bell on Waivers and claiming him, then Hodges was cut, if they didn't think he had any talent, wouldn't they have just cut him to begin with??

just thinking out loud about things I've heard and seen and wondering if there are any correlations.
Pretty sure that was the book on him pre-draft as well. Most I read mentioned something about his attitude/coachability.
I'm still not clear on what's going on with Hodges. Since he cleared waivers, did we place him on IR or is it still possible we reach injury settlement with him (ala Datone Jones) and grant him his outright release? I thought the kid showed enough to at least make the practice squad.
I'd like to see him back in TC next year, but the curve is going to be steep. It's all up to him.

This is what raised my eyebrows about him and why I mentioned "attitude":
http://www.twincities.com/2017/04/29/a-look-at-the-vikings-2017-draft-choices/
-------
TE Bucky Hodges, Virginia Tech, 6-7, 245 pounds
Hodges is very athletic but needs to refine his skills. He caught 48
passes last season for 691 yards and seven touchdowns. Hodges is a very
confident player, saying he wants to be an NFL “legend” and lead the
Vikings to “multiple” Super Bowl wins.
-------
Most rookies will say their first job and focus is to make the team. He is going way beyond that and for me, that is a red flag. I know others will say there is nothing wrong with confidence, but I did not like his response.
