What a difference a few days makes....
#Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said that rookie QB Kellen Mond had his best day of practice on Monday. He split reps at second team with Jake Browning. Methinks that Mond will be the backup come opening day Sept. 12 at Cincinnati.

Here's the thing for every 3rd string QB: its almost impossible to show a damn thing. You are getting hardly any reps. Your teammates suck and most won't be on the final roster. You're an afterthought and become more so every day that gets closer to the regular season. Its a tough spot to be in to try and win a roster spot.
I know Mond has a ton to learn, but here's what his history says: the more he plays, the better he gets. Its not like that for everyone, sometimes the more you play you either hit your ceiling or get exposed.
IMO there's no way they can go into the season with Mond behind KC.
He's just way too green.
I have no doubt he'll make the 53 though.
I actually thought Mond looked solid in his first NFL action. His accuracy (ball placement) was rough at times, but that was the same as it was in college. Add in the fact that he was playing with a lot of guys who won't make the final 53 and it's harder to truly evaluate him as a rookie.
I thought he made some good decisions on when to run and when to throw it away. He moved well in the pocket on a few throws to avoid pressure and get off a throw. Too bad Whop dropped that TD, that was a beautiful throw in tight quarters.
I'm looking forward to seeing him and Browning again. Hopefully both settle in and have a better performance in game 2. Browning hasn't had a lot of game time experience (in the NFL) either.

Game action (even preseason) is what will make the difference. With game action, then the coaching, the game planning, the practice all starts to make sense. Once you hear it and then try to do it, you can then finally learn it.
There sure looks to be a lot of talent on the team (on both sides of the ball).
Kudo's to the front office.
Vikings are imo taking unnecessary risk going into the season with Browning or Mond behind an unvaxed KC.

I would take either of them over Mannion any day.

Thin-ish roster + low vax rate + lots of guys on one-year deals is going to certainly make things interesting this year.@"PurplePastor" said:our roster is razor thin at most positions, outside of RB and DL I dont think we can afford any starters to miss any appreciable time and not see an effect on the field, especially if opposing coaches have time to game plan for that deficiency in talent.@"StickyBun" said: https://twitter.com/christomasson/status/1427671517299679234 Thing that scares me is that our offense along with its backup QBs looks so good in practice and then gets to a preseason game and can't do much of anything. Hopeful for an even better game from him vs. the Colts. Either way, we gotta keep Kirk healthy or it'll probably spell doom (as it would for any team).

brownings game plan called for more passes and Monds for much more runs the way it seemed so that makes it hard to say who looked better, also factor in the level of the opponents I say its to hard to really gleen anything from that game. I thin Mond throws a better pass and showed his velocity and that IMO will cover up some mistakes that you would expect from a back up QB, but IMO I would rather if KC is out them just put Browning in and not push Mond right away as I dont think it will help his development.
Browning was late on every throw.
I think this team is pretty loaded and with Kirk's unvaxed status I would want to look into an experienced veteran QB when the preseason dust settles.
It will be my Viking fan luck that we play to our level and then it all goes to the crapper when Kirk/Mond/Harry/Theilan spread Covid to each other.
