OT: How Cool Is This?
I always loved Field of Dreams....
Rave reviews for MLB's Field of Dreams stadium in Iowa: 'It's incredible'
Iowa — Moments after walking onto the infield dirt along the first base line at Major League Baseball’s specially constructed ballpark in Dyersville on Monday, former Chicago White Sox player and manager Ozzie Guillen looked around and examined the site.
Guillen, now an analyst for NBC Sports Chicago, was impressed with how MLB had successfully put together the park, which is located near the diamond from the famous movie "Field of Dreams."
"Every little detail, they got it," Guillen said.
The park’s biggest test comes Thursday night for a nationally televised regular season game between the White Sox and New York Yankees at 6 p.m. It’ll be the first glimpse many fans get of the temporary park, which seats 8,000 fans and will host MLB’s first regular season game in Iowa.
"It’s incredible," said 'Field of Dreams' actor Dwier Brown

Hurry-up Vikings, we ain't getting any younger!
I saw it being built two years ago when I was there labor day weekend.
Why is it a temporary field? If MLB were smart they would maintain it for an MLB annual classic and let other games take place there. Imagine that as the new home of the little league world series, amateur baseball tournaments and other special games.

I think it was really cool but it is kinda lame that it wasnt on the actual field from the movie.

But I imagine that field with its perfectly manicured grounds and the impossibly healthy, almost fake looking corn, is very expensive to maintain.
Yep, that was awesome last night! I can’t stand either team but what a cool presentation and finish. Totally delivered.
A #walkoff into the corn at #MLBatFieldofDreams.

I am just thinking that baseball popularity is kind of having a bit of a problem in the US, a good way to reignite the passion for the game would be for MLB to give kids a chance to play on this field and to make a big deal out of it. its likely cooler for those of us old enough to have actually seen the movie and thought it was cool, but something like this could still move the needle for some kids I would think.@"JimmyinSD" said: Why is it a temporary field? @"JimmyinSD" said:MLB ratings are down significantly for sure and that's been the trend for awhile now. Did that field lighting look incredibly poor to anyone else? That was one dark field.@"MaroonBells" said:golf courses that the PGA play arent maintained even close to what they look like the one week a year they are on TV though either. @"JimmyinSD" said:Right. Like playing shortstop or third base without having any idea where the ball is going to bounce because of how crappy the "dirt" was. They probably also airplane sprayed extra nutrients on a few weeks ago to get the deep green.
Everything outside of the first couple plants look like very normal average corn.
I would think the problem with holding regular games there is accommodating the event in a town with what 4k people? Its not like you have an abundance of hotel/dining/entertainment accommodations.
This is one of the coolest things any sports league has ever done. Magical. MLB getting cooler lately. Nice to see! pic.twitter.com/b3sITsnjbx

but its only a half hour to Dubuque which is large enough to provide all the accommodations you might need.
