If Surratt and Jones do end up as starters, everything else we get out of this year's picks will be gravy.

The Vikings moved down nine spots in the first round to No. 23 and took offensive tackle Christian Darrisaw. One front-office person said Minnesota could have taken Darrisaw with the 14th pick and no one would have thought he’d been drafted too high. Another said he expects the Vikings to have four starters from the draft in Darrisaw, linebacker Chazz Surratt, guard Wyatt Davis and defensive end Patrick Jones. Besides Darrisaw, each was taken in the third round. Two of those picks were acquired in the trade down in the first round.

I think Surratt is going to surprise and he will get a chance to start. Might be the easiest entry point on the team right now, LB.

Definitely. But, start means about 30% of the D snaps. Liking this pick less by the day. Not only for the player, but the potential for thread titles we missed out on:

It's Cox!
Cox Hammers Rodgers
Cox Comes Up Big
Cox All Over The Field
Cox Relentless

I would have liked to see them draft Browning over Surratt, but what the hell do I know.

It will be an interesting battle between he and Dye in training camp. Surratt is a better athlete, but he may need a full season to work on his strength and to bulk up a little bit. When I watch his film, he seems more like a safety.

Rodgers speaks highly of Cox

Yeah, I stated that Surratt and Dye seem like similar types of players, so was kind of questioning the Surratt pick that high.    I am just not seeing it with Surratt based on his highlights.

IMO, Dye looked pretty weak and overmatched most times last season, so he also needs to hit the weights and get stronger.  I remember thinking Dye looked like a long snapper running around playing defense last season.

I think Surratt will be given every opportunity to start. He's a smart player with a nose for the ball and has shown the ability to rush the passer from the LB position which is definitely something we need. Hopefully I'm underestimating his lack of strength when he faces off against NFL level talent that will challenge him physically. I'm definitely pulling for him to be a nice impact player for us this year even if it's a limited role.

If our dline gets back closer to pre 2019 form it should take a little pressure off getting to the ball carrier for him.

DT eating up some blockers goes a long way to freeing up the lb position.

realistically if Darrisaw and Davis are league average or above starters this draft is a solid B.

If Mond is a average backup or better this draft becomes an A no matter what else happens

To be fair, I just need Darrisaw and Davis hit.  Everything after that is gravy.
