Best highlight video of Mond
That throw at 1:04 is ridiculous. That is a hard throw to make and he makes it with both feet in the air.
His floor is a good backup QB... Ceiling... we'll find out.
StickyBun I'm glad to see you're on the Mond bandwagon now.
If the Vikings work in a few run, pass, option packages with Mond over the next two years that could actually help open up some holes for Cook.
Mond is a much higher end QB than Taysom Hill... but a few of those types of plays that the Saints used with him would give the Vikings a different element or change of pace look.

I think that would be a disservice to Mond. He's not a gadget player, let him develop as a QB. I honestly think it's dumb to pull your starting QB to run the Wildcat or read option plays with another player. It just disrupts the flow of the drive to often in my opinion.
What do we think a realistic timeline for transitioning from Kirk to Mond is— week 1 or week 2?
Just kidding!! But that video is fun. I’m going to try to hunt down and watch that Aggies/LSU game in full for sure.

Exactly. Look at Mond's college stats, this is a kid that gets better each year. Taysom Hill is not the comp for Mond, lol. And the best part is Mond will have time to develop. There is no rush for him with Cousin's contract. Let's start with him getting the backup job first, which would be great, and then if he progresses the team can decide things accordingly.https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/kellen-mond-1.html
Talking with @elihartskin right now and he mentioned that Kellen Mond looks like a robot that was built to play football and I couldn't agree more. Lack of fluidity in his movements and feels slow in his progressions is showing up consistently pic.twitter.com/MCoeeSwFdD

And here's the worst video of Mond. And no, I'm not going to be THAT guy, but this is the downside. I've watched enough of Mond to see his biggest fault. Indecision. Waiting too long for a play to open up. There are games I've watched where he just too shot after shot. I remember one game where I'm saying out loud get him out of there before he gets killed.

@"BarrNone55" said: https://twitter.com/i/status/1389076393061851138Yeah, he definitely needs time. Some of those wow throws he made at A&M he should've thrown out of bounds. Many of them will get picked off in the NFL.
What i like is that he improved every season and i just love his movement and motion. He's actually a much better runner than he's given credit for. All of those things bode well for him winning the QB2 job.
Can he be a quality starter in the NFL? Odds are against it. But the odds are against Lawrence, Wilson, Lance, Jones and Fields, too. Sure, the odds are higher, but still against. All QBs are shots in the dark at getting lucky. Past the 1st round they're blindfolded trick shots in the dark...from half court. But Mond was my favorite shot.
And the fact that we got him for nothing (*cough* Bears) is a beautiful thing. It's a no-cost gamble.

That's why this is an under rated pick. We've got the same relative upside with minimal investment. A larger Wilson? Kaepernick? Brett Hundley? Dunno. But the upside is intoxicating.

Thats the best part about it. Fields is the better prospect, but if you watch his highlights right after Monds and compare what was given up for each. I think I'd take Mond in the 3rd with 2 years to sit vs Fields for 2x #1s and expected to start right away.
One thing that’s popping out to me is his ability to stay upright through contact. No he’s not Big Ben but on a lot of plays, especially once he gets moving downhill in a run, he’s breaking arm tackles. Things will be different in the NFL of course but it’s cool to see him able to withstand some contact and keep a play alive.
I’m just happy to have a backup QB with some sliver of upside. As crazy as it seems, I’m pretty sure it’s been decades since we’ve had that.

How many college QBs don't improve year after year and keep their job? Fact is his Passing pct. his senior yr. is on par where the rest of the draftees started their freshman yrs.He can run and sling it, but can he process quick enough and be accurate in the NFL? Call me skeptical.

most of the throws in that 7 minute video are legit completions, they werent just a matter of the defender not making a play on a poorly thrown ball, or a matter of a defender being completely burnt... those are legit NFL type windows he was throwing into and was putting the ball in great places.
In traffic he moves well... and often had both hands on the ball held high so it couldnt be popped out easily, or he had it tucked away if he was taking off running. ball protection looks to be years ahead of Cousins already.
I like how elusive he can be while still looking down field, but when its not there he was quick to tuck the ball and take the yardage given to him.
yes he needs a lot of growth time, but IMO he looks every bit the part and is no weaker of a prospect than Lance is. A lot of Lances throws are well under thrown and would either have been picks or not attempted except the receiver was so wide open.

@"MaroonBells" said:He will get that worked out in practice and preseason. It may sound absurd but IMO he would maybe benefit the most from being 3rd string to start the year with Browning or Stanley as the #2, so that he can get a lot of reps against our #1 D while running the scout team. I think the O concepts will come quick enough for him, but going up against our first D would definitely get him used to the speed of the pro game quicker.@"BarrNone55" said: https://twitter.com/i/status/1389082491957383182 Absurd in two ways.
