Zach Wilson is a polished and erratic athletic quarterback who broke out in his junior season against a weak schedule and inferior level of competition. There is a lot of hype surrounding this kid, but in reality, he only looks like a glorified high school quarterback who excels at sandlot football. Operates exclusively out of shotgun formation.
Well schooled in terms of quarterback mechanics and fundamentals. However, overuses play-action fake — does it all the time and he does not hide the ball well. Often it looks like a wasted motion. Good pocket poise and toughness. Good mobility and athleticism — can step up and roll in either direction, but far more effective and has a tendency to roll out to his right. Smart and makes quick decisions with the ball. Looks really good overall in the pocket, but that is where referring to him as “good” ends.
I watched every one of his throws and runs in 2020 and I am not seeing it or feeling it with this guy in terms of arm strength, touch, ball placement, or accuracy. Half of his throws look great and half of them look receiver “unfriendly,” or downright bad. Many passes were high or low and were either incomplete or he gave the receivers literally no chance to pick up additional yards. It literally and consistently was like watching two different quarterbacks throw. He will be an interception machine in the NFL.
MUCH more at the link.

I'm very interested to see where the top 5 QBs in the Draft go and when.

I read a different evaluation of Wilson (from another former scout) that was not as negative, but did bring up some of the same concerns...  plenty of tape showing Wilson avoiding "NFL open" receivers in the middle of the field and primarily working the sidelines and flats.

He had good stats last year, but not the previous year. Which QB is he?

His one year wonder stats should compare to the Trubisky type concerns, and I certainly get the lower tier competition argument, but he was REALLY good this past year. 3rd round pick is just trying to create some attention to yourself. If you want to say you cant trust a QB from BYU as a top 5 pick then that's fine, but he's a top talent

This scout is a hack and just wants some pub.  I started reading some of the quotes "like works exclusively out of shotgun" and most are "jump balls with no velocity" and then I click the video and the first play is Wilson under center and the second is a long pass on a dime with good coverage, too funny:).   Then I read lacks accuracy and ball placement, what?????, I am not looking up but I think he had around a 70% completion percentage.  Now of course 70% of those completions might not had ideal ball placement but you can't say they weren't accurate, can you?  Yes he can.  The guy looks and sounds like an idiot looking for attention.

That was my first impression as well.

The writer spent 4 years with the Jets and is attempting to get involved with another NFL team after years away from the league. His assessment of Wilson appears to be for shock value. If correct it gives him a suspender snapping moment.

so this guy was in charge of finding talent for historically one of the worst franchises in the game in the modern era... and his opinion get published... I wish the story would have lead with that and saved us some time.  :p

I've also heard he wasn't a Captain. There's a big C on his jersey, but what do I know.

Worked as a minion for the Jets in the late nineties and then became an evangelist. Apparently self published his scouting and mailed it to several teams which eventually led to the Jets gig.

According to some, he's also not a captain.

That "C" could be his grade average.  Or it could stand for Counsellor, but that would be hard to achieve as just a junior.

It just kills me when a guy on NFL network repeats a falsehood like this. C'mon! Just fucking lazy reporting.
