I finally watched the 'Project 11' documentary on ESPN over the weekend. Alex Smith is an impressive human being.

5-1 as a starter for the WTFs. He'll resurface some where. Ties to Urban might lead him to Jax.

Yep, too many crap QBs in the NFL for him not to. I'd put Teddy in that category too, just under Alex Smith. Low end starter to high end backup whose contract complicates things. Of course both have severe injury histories that may also factor in, especially given that mysterious "physical limitations" comment from the Panthers.

If he can't get starter money anywhere and winds up taking an Andy Dalton/Jameis Winston backup deal for cheap, Indianapolis should grab him. For the right price he'd be a great hedge if Wentz gets hurt or is just washed.

fuck,  since we are so ready to compete,  we should go after him,  why risk our championship year by not having a quality back up?  I know KC has been an iron man back there,  but the NFL is like bull riding,  its not if you get hurt but when.

Now that I think about this more, I'm 90% convinced that this was never a quote from anyone in the Panthers org. No team would ever say that, regardless of what it refers to.

Yup, he's made it crystal clear he wants a QB.

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned it, but Smith could also end up with the Bears and reunite with Nagy.  Pretty sure Nagy was OC during Smiths time there.

Alex Smith is 36 years old....and will be 37 before the next season starts. But no reason he couldn't be a decent backup for 2 more years.

Sure, but don't you think Alex wants to have another shot at starting somewhere? Even if he has to be a "bridge", doing it in Jacksonville will be too short. Will they put up with keeping Trevor on the bench for a season? A month? A week? The first quarter of the first preseason game?

Chicago makes sense to me: missed on Wentz, likely to miss on Watson, no pick for a QB, but Nagy needs to win. Smith could have the position to himself in 2021.

  • ALEX SMITHQB, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT
The Washington Football Team announced Alex Smith requested his release from the team. Washington head coach Ron Rivera said in a statement announcing Smith's release that he met with Smith and "decided that it would be best for both parties to move on." Smith's request for release aligns with comments he made in February about the team not including him in their 2020 plans. "They never thought I was coming back. No one there," Smith told GQ. He insisted there were no hard feelings between him and the coaching staff, but the well had clearly been poisoned. Releasing Smith, 36, makes financial sense for the Football Team, which save nearly $15 million against the cap.  RELATED:
