He's kind of flown under the radar a bit when talking about free agency and I'm not sure what his demand is going to be after posting zero sacks for the Titans last season, but you know he is incredibly talented and has a unique physical skillset.  Still only 28 years old. I'm really surprised we have not seen his best football out of him at this point.  Did anybody have any doubt coming out of college he was going to be a consistent double digit sack guy and one of the best players at his position, maybe of all time?

But I would love to see the Vikings bring him in on a one year deal with a team option for a second and see what Zimmer and Patterson could do with him playing opposite of Hunter. Low risk, high reward if his agent is willing to play ball

Not even on a Sheldon Richardson "prove it" type contract? I'd love to see what Zim and Patterson could get out of him.

Nope. Like a Covair, unsafe at any speed. Cannot stay on the field, and when he is, where's the production. And this is coming from a guy who loved him coming out. NFW.

He was ranked #41 in the NFL top 100 players of 2020.  Didn't watch a lot of Titans football last year so not sure what happened with him

Check out his Youtube player profile from the Top 100 players of 2020. If he is going to cause Lafleur that kind of hesitation in play calling....sign me up

Hard pass on Clowney. Lazy, unproductive, and a really bad mentality

Did Zim and Patterson get a lot ($10M) out of Richardson?

He was a productive player for us and has been the best 3 technique Zimmer has had.

Only played in 8 games last season before being placed on IR with a meniscus tear in his knee that required surgery.  HIs lack of productivity can at least partially be attributed to injuries and I would attribute some of that to just being in bad scheme fit in Houston as a 3-4 LB.  He would however be a great fit in our scheme.

Sure, but he's a big name (In his eyes) and has never recorded double digit sacks in a season. The year before last he only had 3 sacks so it doesn't make sense to overpay someone with his mentality and work ethic.

I agree but if you don't overpay and can get him on a bargain "prove it" type contract....his age and physical ability make him an intriguing player.  As you mentioned 3 sacks in the last two seasons, injured, and with the reduced salary cap the timing might be right to get something like that done.  He certainly has all the physical tools to put together a double digit sack season, especially opposite a healthy Danielle Hunter.

I think the bar is set low for "best 3T Zimmer has had" - and I assume you mean, "with the Vikings". Actually, I'm not certain Richardson was more effective than Tom Johnson..

As for Richardson, I was disappointed, but I'm sure opinions vary. There were some reports he was freelancing in hopes of building his stats (for the next contract, of course), and I don't think the Vikings made any attempt to retain him. He was supposed to be a "missing piece" and our defense dropped from #1 in 2017 to #9 in 2018.0

IMO players don't mesh with our defense well during their first year. I'm also not convinced Zimmer and Patterson are such "molders of talent", but...that's an unpopular opinion here.

Boy, the Vikes were really snakebite with Floyd and Teddy...

I really thought Shariff was going to be the next Hardware Hank.

I never would have put $$ down on the Vikings (of all teams) having difficulty reloading @ 3t.

Our salary cap situation made it difficult to retain him and Cleveland came in with a large offer. I think most of us knew he was going to be gone.  I know it wasn't because Zimmer had no interest in bringing him back.

But yes, Tom Johnson did string together some quality seasons here in a mostly backup role

Yeah, that situation really sucked.

Didn't have great hopes for Richardson.  We were his 3rd team?  And Seattle had a great need on their DL yet they didn't try to hard to keep him.   I think he is a great comparison for Clowney, shows bursts of great talent, but not dedicated enough to put it on the field every play.

I had as many sacks last year, but I'm more of a run stuffer.

I wonder . . if Floyd is gone by our pick, do we take Ogletree at LB and then the following year take Donald at DT vs Barr

I'm just saying a d-line of Clowney, Pierce, Barmore, and Hunter would be a major problem for opposing teams and put us up there with the likes of Chicago, San Francisco, and Washington as one of the best defensive fronts in the league

Clowney’s mo is to find health 2 days before the season opener, sign on his “enormous potential”, then play awhile only to get “injured” again... he’s a perennial tease—Bud Grant would not approve...!  ;)

He was a good player and underrated by those who only see numbers. But you might get an argument that Floyd was better in the handful of games he was actually healthy.
