Any estimates of what the Vikings may be awarded this year? Early last year I saw some estimates of up to 3 additional selections, including a possible 3rd for Trae Waynes. Is any of that affected by Waynes missing the 2020 season?

No one knows the exact formula that the NFL uses...  but it's assumed that contract value and performance are very heavily weighted.

Over the Cap has been very accurate in their predictions and has the Vikings getting a 4th for Waynes (likely because he missed time this season otherwise it would have been a 3rd), a 6th for Mac Alexander, and 2 7ths for Sendejo and Kearse.

They have Michael Pierce cancelling out Weatherly.

So...  the Vikings 2021 draft capital could look like this:

1st
3rd
3rd (from Ravens for Yannicke)
4th
4th (from Bears)
4th (from Bills)
4th (from Waynes / comp)
5th
5th (from Steelers)
6th
6th (from Mac / comp)
7th
7th (from Sendejo / comp)
7th (from Kearse / comp)

Lots of ammo to move around.

Is that the Jeffersons I hear singing "Movin on Up"?

Gotta believe we get back into the 2nd with all this ammo.

I don't know. You know how many 7th rounders we could get out of all that?

I think the Vikings can fill a need and get a quality player at 14. I don't care if it's Gregory Rousseau, Kwity Paye, Rashawn Slater, Christian Darrisaw, Christian Barmore or others.

But Rick better be thinking about trading up into the 2nd round multiple times to target quality players and fill needs.

I would love to see him attack this draft and aggressively move up for talent.

I'd be shocked if the Vikings didn't get that 2nd back. Actually, it wouldn't surprise me at all to see them end up with two 1st rounders.

I don't believe they are receiving comp picks for Kearse & Sendejo. That would be beyond the 35 total comp pick limit.

I can see Spielman trying to get another #1 - he likes being active in round 1. But...I'm trying to avoid railing him at every turn, but you guys all know he loves having a lot of picks on day 3. I don't think he has ever traded up EXCEPT to get a 1st-round pick. And draft value chart be damned, I don't think any team gives up a #1 for 2 3rd-rounders and some 4ths. I think we'll be trying to fill needs with all those 3rd and 4th round picks.

Harrison, Cordarrelle, and Teddy in the first. After the first, Elflein, Dalvin, Samia, David Morgan, Daniel Carlson...I'm sure there's more.

All correct. Cook is definitely a good example against my assertion. But these are also "slide up a bit" trades - they moved up 10 selections or less by giving up another later pick. Jumping up into the 2nd or 1st is going to be a bigger deal and less likely to happen. Has anyone traded their 1st round pick for 2 3rds? I suppose someone might trade a 2nd for those 2.

I'm usually in favor of getting higher picks, but this year, I don't know if that makes as much sense. Players sitting out, no combine - after the first 20 picks, it might be a bigger crapshoot than ever, with players going from the late 1st to the 4th without clear hierarchies between them.

No, we're obviously not getting into the 1st without trading down from #14. The trade down is what nets you the 2nd. Then you can package that with some of the extra picks and get back into the late 1st...or at least early 2nd.

If Mac Jones is on the board at 14, I can see the Vikings possibly moving back and letting a QB needy team move ahead of the Patriots to land Jones. Let say the Colts lose out on the Stafford or Watson trades, Mac Jones then might have some value to them.

So, in that situation the Vikings get atleast pick 21 and pick 54 (maybe more) from the Colts.

Washington and Pittsburg could be right in the same boat as the Colts... in needy demand for Mac Jones?

It all depends on how the dots are connected with the QB movement this offseason.

Wouldn't it be cool to move back one spot to the Patriots and pick up a second round pick from them?

If the Mac Jones buzz continues to climb it could mean a nice deal for the Vikings.

If Mac Jones is available at 14 we better think about taking him. If we trade back I hope it's to a position that still allows us to take him.
I know I am of the minority here. But we can still upgrade the team if we take Mac Jones with our first pick.
Then there is the part where you let him sit and learn for a year without the pressure of starting out of the gate.
I really don't subscribe to the idea that the first round pick must start. However, I agree that the first round pick should be an impact player.

SMH re Mac Jones. Are you guys serious? I think I would rather take a QB from Ohio State. The Crimson Tide makes every QB look like a star. Jones isn't even a great physical talent like Tua or Jalen Hurts. Yeah, yeah, leadership, reads the field well...so did AJ McCarron.
