Bills play calling
Bills OC Brian Daboll’s first 20 play calls:
— Peter Schrager (@PSchrags) January 17, 2021
—19 passes
—1 run
That has to be some sort of record. @gmfb

This is why the NFL should not allow coaches to interview until the playoffs are over. He is rumored to be the favorite for the SD job and I am convinced either his head was not in the game or he was trying to audition on how he would call plays for Herbert. It was obvious right from the start that Allen was overhyped and any OC would have called some runs and short passes to help settle him in. It wasn't just the passing plays, but they were mostly long shots down field with no RB in backfield so there was no threat to run at all. Bills are a pass heavy team, but that was not their offense all year, they mixed in the run well.
I have to believe McDermott chewed him out at half and told him to cut the garbage, cause first drive they mixed it up and looked more like themselves and went down for 7. After that display, I wouldn't go near that guy for a HC position.

The guy is partially responsible for one of the biggest improvements with a young QB from year 2 to year 3. I mean, Josh Allen, was one of the worst deep ball throwers the last two years and then skyrocketed to the Top in that category. Also his completion % skyrocketed as well. I think Daboll is ideal for Herbert in SD.

At the bold...
Looks like the Chargers read your post and went with Staley (the Rams DC). I am not sure about the Staley hire as I actually liked Daboll especially with the work he did with J. Allen.
Anyway, I am not a football mind. All I know is the Chargers dont have to pay moving cost for their head coach and with trust Herbert's development to who a one year DC made head coach brings as OC.
