NFL Offensive Coordinator Candidates for the 2021 NFL SeasonNFL head coaches will hire a coordinator for one of three reasons. Either the coordinator is a personal friend of the coach, a former colleague from their time on another team, or the best man for the job.  Both the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys were great examples last season of new coaching staffs that showed were assembled the right and wrong way.
Giants head coach Joe Judge hired former Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett and former Dolphins defensive coordinator Patrick Graham to be his coordinators. After one season Garrett is being considered a legitimate candidate for head coaching jobs across the league and Graham was also a candidate for head coaching opportunities before the Giants game him an extension.
Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy brought in former Saints linebacker coach Mike Nolan to be his defensive coordinator last seasons despite Nolan’s lack of success as a defensive coordinator in the past. Nolan had hired McCarthy to be his offensive coordinator in 2005 and is a very good friend of McCarthy. Dallas’ defense regressed to the point where proven veterans like DeMarcus Lawerence and Jaylon Smith‘s talent was questioned and considered cut candidates. The Cowboys let Nolan less than a week after the regular season ended.
Along with the six head coaching vacancies there are five coordinator positions that have opened up around the league as well. It is also worth noting that the Los Angeles Chargers would like to retain their current offensive and defensive coordinators, but could let them go if their next head coach wants to bring in his guys and general manager Tom Telesco approves.
Here are the coaches who can fill the offensive coordinator vacancies around the league.

Lynn has the background Zim seems to be drawn to. Three of five years he oversaw a top ten scoring offense. After that, I guess Pubes Jr.

Does it matter if Zimmer won't get out of the OC's way?

Knowing Zim, I think Dennison is the most likely. Most of all, he's going to want continuity, and the two best places to find that are Dennison and young Kubiak.

Dennison has a lot of experience calling plays and that will appeal to Zimmer. He's had some success and some failures: 2015 championship Broncos. But Peyton Manning was more or less the OC; In 2016, Dennison coached the Broncos helmed by Trevor Siemian to 9-7. Not bad. Same record the following year in Buffalo with Tyrod Taylor and Nathan Peterman under center. So....there's some upside there.

But I think I go with Klint. More of an unknown, but he would come with a de facto offensive advisor in his father. What's more, the unknown might have more upside. I'm sure he's smart enough to have some of his own ideas. Who knows, maybe they're good ideas.

You guys are too old school, pubes are out.  We need an exotic OC with a Brazilian background.

I won't even try and combine Burnsy and Pubes.

Is this real? Oh my goodness. I don't know what is more unbelievable his language or him calling out his players

Edit:
Wait! Did the Vikes win the game?
Did he still have a job after this press conference?

It's real. They won and he still had a job. That rant was a thing of beauty. It was a different era.

Thank you. The only way we can make it stick is to use it.

After watching last night's game, try to convince Sarkisian not to go to Texas and make him the highest paid OC in the NFL. F* it, why not

coaching texas football likely pays better than any nfl job, and likely also has more job security.

I'm not sure those Texas coaching jobs are as elite or secure as they used to be...

That said, I'd could see the missus and me living in Austin someday.

Idk, ask Tom Herman. The pay likely is better now that you think of it

what pay is better?  big program college head coaches make way more bank than nfl OCs.   Herman was making over 5 million a year and the avg nfl OC is around a million.

I guess I should have added win a big 12 championship once in a while and be able to recruit... IMO the only reason they moved on from him was they were able to snake the bama OC.

I like Klint Kubiak if Gary stays on board one more year as an advisor. Would Gary be interested in the same role he had with Kevin Stefanski? That situation would make a good retirement transition for Gary and a smoother transition to OC for little Kubes.

I too like the idea of going younger and staying within the same coaching family,  however,  what do we really know about Klint?  what has he done that would make him a viable OC candidate other than being lucky sperm?

My son did an internship there and we visited: fun place but it is HOT as shit in the summer. And its getting overpopulated because everyone is moving there. Traffic going north and south thru the city is a nightmare. But awesome music scene, the river runs right thru town and the bats come out at dusk!
