thats crazy how much the game has changed, at the time Moss seemed to own the game with his rookie performance, he seemed larger than life,..... JJ is just another guy having a really good year.
Stats do not tell the full story and can be really misleading. JJ is having an amazing year, but you can't compare it to Moss's rookie year, it is not even close. Moss made catches and plays that no one had ever seen before and rarely have seen since. Moss came in and was an immediate game changer, he made plays that completely turned the game around. He put up Wins. When we needed a big play, we went to Moss every time and he delivered, he was the Freak and there has been no one else like him.
Jefferson has had no where that kind of impact. We have been playing from behind so often this year that a lot of his stats as well as Cousins have come with the game out of reach and were not enough to win the game. He is a solid WR, but no where the once in a generation player that Moss was. It is just crazy to even try to compare.

( with a few exceptions ) on defenses that were still geared at run stoppage.

And defenses were playing far smaller CBs who couldn't control his size. I remember many scouting reports saying a CB over 6'0" would be unable to break with WRs and had to move to safety. He ushered in an era when every team wants at least one big tall WR like DK Metcalf, and looks for 6'2" CBs to cover them.
It's almost an apple to oranges comparison at this point. But I'll say this...Moss changed the game to the point where the Fudge Packers tailored their draft the following year in order to stop him.
Without the Moss lens, what Jefferson has done in the Covid season is nothing short of stupefying. Any remarks to the contrary are simply ignorant.
Different eras. Moss changed the game, there's no doubt about it. Jefferson is impressive because of the exception and unprecedented circumstances he is working in this year. Both are amazing talents. Moss made his mark and now Jefferson is making his. I am thrilled that both Moss and Jefferson are Vikings.

In 1998 teams averaged 32.3 passes a game for 205 yard/avg and a 56% completion percentage

Keep in mind, if Moss played with this team he would have less TD for the simple reason the current offensive line is dismal. Think about, in 1998, the offensive line was Steussie, McDaniel, Christy, Dixon and Stringer. That year, Steussie, McDaniel and Christy were Pro Bowlers and McDaniel was 1st Team All Pro. Stringer, Steussie and McDaniel were 1st rounders. Not one of the current Viking offensive lineman would have started in 1998. Not one. So, some of Moss routes would never had been used because the current offensive line would not have been able to hold the pocket that long.
Moss was the 3rd WR and Jefferson is the #2 they get different DBs covering them. I agree it's oranges and apples
