Dantzler placed on Covid-19 reserve (edit: now NOT playing)
The Vikings’ cornerback group was already thin after the bye week, with Mike Hughes and Holton Hill still not practicing because of injuries. On Wednesday afternoon, they had to use the NFL’s COVID-19 reserve list for the first time since training camp on another one of their corners.
The team placed rookie Cameron Dantzler on the reserve list Wednesday, after Dantzler was not seen at their afternoon practice. Dantzler’s placement on the list either means he tested positive for the coronavirus or was in close contact with someone who did. Vikings players were required to stay in the Twin Cities and undergo daily COVID-19 testing at the team facility during the bye week.
Dantzler’s placement on the list means he could miss the team’s game against the Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday. The NFL updated its coronavirus protocol last week, requiring players to isolate for five days if they’re deemed a “high-risk” close contact with an individual who tested positive.
The Vikings added cornerback Mark Fields to the active roster on Monday, and claimed former Lions cornerback Chris Jones off waivers, while adding Marcus Sayles — who spent part of the offseason with the team — to the practice squad.
When asked on Wednesday about the batch of new players in the secondary, coach Mike Zimmer said, “Well, we've had guys hurt. What else? It's a five-day, six-day before they can enter so if guys are hurt, it's going to take a while for them to get up to speed, and we don't know if these other guys can play or not, so we'll just see."

I knew Zimmer was gonna regret that "I've never had a bad defense" remark the minute I heard it.

This isn't the year to hold Z's feet to the fire on that comment. Oh yeah, he's missing Hunter, Pierce, Barr and a myriad of combinations due to injury/youth at cornerback....and they just traded the team's leading sacker.

Its not an excuse, its a reason. Listen, I know your schtick is too shit on everything Zimmer/Spielman this year, trust me we got it...ad nauseam. Certainly they aren't beyond reproach and I've said as much many times. But this particular bitch you have isn't legit, there are reasons. The other criticisms are worthy and I agree....but not this one. Z's act has grown old with me, time for a change.
Three corners down. Sounds like a Tom Clancy novel. So presumably our only healthy corner, Jeff Gladney, gets Davante Adams. And Kris Boyd and company take on the rest.
I remain adamant, the Vikings will cover the 7 pt spread.
Gulp

Watching Zim shoot his mouth off and fall on his face never gets old, that's all I'm gonna say. Watching this organization stumble around for 15 years got old a long time ago. When they wake up and start making smart moves I'll applaud, until then my "schtick" as you call it ain't gonna change. Have a nice day! =)

...But of all years, he actually said this I've never had a bad defense? A year of pandemic, when anything could go sideways. A year when the organization traded away its starting DE, DT, and 2 starting DB's for a bunch of question marks. In what prism of reality was he looking through?Yes, there is are reasons for all of this mess, and Zimmer should have seen it for what it was before voluntarily walking his line of hubris to the end of the plank. What are the other criticisms of Zimmer that you agree with, where this statement doesn't quite measure up on the ill-advised scale?

I think we'll play decent, hang around, and lose.
EDIT- Oops, wrong thread. Thought this was the Packers week thread! I hope Dantzler is ok and that he gets healthy!
How does "NFL defenses all suck this year" excuse the Vikings' defensive performance? They are 28th in the league in yards and 30th in points. The Ravens are giving up 17.3 points per game and the Vikings are giving up 32. Why doesn't the Ravens defense - not to mention the other 28 teams doing better than the Vikings - have the same problem if it is a league-wide issue?
Maybe every team's defense is worse than last year's, or the year before, or the years of the Purple People Eaters and Steel Curtain of the 1970s. Is Zimmer only suited for that era? Because whatever has changed, most teams are playing defense better than the Vikings. Relative to other teams this year, Zimmer has a BAD DEFENSE.

Oh, you misunderstand. My first game as a fan was Super Bowl IV, Jan 11, 1970. I'm referring to 15 years of the current ownership.
Help at corner: Cameron Dantzler cleared to return from COVID list for Vikings-Packers
Rookie Cameron Dantzler’s stay on the reserve/COVID-19 list lasted three days, as the Vikings activated the cornerback on Saturday for some much-needed help in Sunday’s game at Green Bay.
Dantzler will join Jeff Gladney, Kris Boyd, Harrison Hand and Mark Fields at cornerback against the Packers, with Mike Hughes (neck) on injured reserve and Holton Hill (foot) ruled out for the third straight game.
Dantzler’s brief stay indicates he was cleared to return with two negative tests as part of contact tracing, as confirmed positive cases and high-risk close contacts require a minimum five-day quarantine. He’d been isolated since Wednesday.
The Vikings made a handful of other moves ahead of kickoff, activating linebacker Troy Dye from injured reserve after the rookie returned to practice this week from an ankle injury. The Vikings will be without linebacker Todd Davis, who tested positive for COVID on Friday morning and is required to be isolated for at least five days.
Taking Davis’ place under a COVID roster exemption is center Brett Jones, who can suit up against the Packers. Defensive tackle Hercules Mata’afa and defensive back Luther Kirk were also elevated from the practice squad for the game.
New cornerback Chris Jones, claimed off waivers from the Lions last weekend, cleared the NFL’s six-day entry testing protocols on Saturday and will be available, however he was not able to practice for much of the week.
Receiver Dan Chisena, the undrafted rookie special teamer, has been downgraded to out. He’d been listed questionable on Friday after a hip injury led him to miss practice.
