what are you saving him for?  he is still a damn good player, but in 2 years he will be a step or 2 slower and those back and lower body injuries will be more frequent and taking their toll.

if its the feel good factor,  take what you can get for him now (it will be the most he will be able to help us while we rebuild)  and then sign him back at the end of his career so he can retire a Viking and maybe find him a coaching position or something like that.

Hey if Harrison Smith is on the table, so is Thielen. I am pissed that Smith is an option, I guess you get to be pissed about Thielen.

I am OK if we get their first for this year, a 3rd or 4th this year plus a mid-low rounder next year.

Trading Thielen makes no sense and would come with a 5.4 mil dead money cap hit in 2021, a 4.9 mil cap savings in 2021, and a 3 mil cap savings this year.

But it severely weakens the receiver group.

The defense is already hurting and the guard situation is abysmal.

Thielen and Jefferson are solid.

If you get rid of Thielen then how do you replace him?

Even if the Vikings cut or trade Cousins (they should do one or the other) they will likely select a QB in the next draft.

I would think, and this may be just me, that you want that QB to have as many weapons as possible no?

they will have to bring in a veteran gap QB to start next year so that the rookie will have time to learn the pro game,  maybe even 2 years for some prospects,  if we can get a third round pick out of AT this year that could go towards interior OL help... then IMO he needs to be shopped.  This isnt about competing this year or even next year,  this is about building a team that starting in 2022 will be able to compete for a SB.

A top 5 producing WR, a face of the franchise, (it is still a business) for a 3rd.  No way.  It's a 1st or nothing.

Rudy, Harry, Reiff I get, but not Adam, he's still a stud and with Jefferson, Cook, Irv, is a goddamn dangerous offense with a young mobile QB immediately in 2021.

Adam's contract is cap friendly so it must be a first
Look at Arizona's 5 to go with Murray (Fitz, Hopkins, Drake, Edmonds, Daniels) then the Minnesota 5 (Adam, Jet, Cook, Mattison, Irv).  With a new coach, Trevor, Fields or Lance, it could be a dangerous team fast

I have no idea. I literally copied Diggs's trade and changed it a bit :)

Jimmy, I see the logic of all your points but I still disagree - Adam Thielen is a special case. Trade away Ngakoue and 80% of the fanbase says, "Who?" Same with Reiff. Trade Rudolph or Smith - sure, people will notice, but some people would say, "Oh I didn't know he was still playing.." But trade Thielen, and IMO you would see double the anger in the "general fan populace" as the trade of Diggs, maybe much more. He is the Vikings' most popular player, easily the team leader in jersey sales. And he is a LOCAL player - is there any Minnesota athlete who is more popular (not to mention a better player) currently playing in ANY pro sport? The Twins didn't trade away Kent Hrbek or Joe Mauer, did they? Trade away Thielen and it will be front-page headline news in Minnesota, and it will make 99% of the team's fans angry.

I’m of the belief that you want to have a fairly solid offense
for your rookie QB to come into.  I think
the last thing you want to do is dismantle the offense completely and then
bring in a rookie to figure things out when everything is broken around him.  I just think Thielen is going to be an
essential part of the transition.  I
think you almost have to assume that Reiff and Rudolph are gone.  So you’ll have potentially 3 question marks
on the OLine and you really need 2 of those 3 to be solid.  Maybe you could resign Rudolph at a much
reduced rate, like $3M or something, but probably not.

in hindsight,  how many of those that would have howled if they had traded Mauer would still feel that way after they saw how his career played out?   I love AT and am just as proud of him and his success as any Minnesotan not at the Thielen family reunions.  However i think most all would agree that a Vikings SB is bigger than a local kid playing his whole career for the home team.

I think there were families who brought their kid to Twins games wearing a Mauer jersey and didn't care if he was hitting .250.

But the compensation is a factor. Is a Vikings SB bigger than having a hometown player? Sure - but are you really going to trade Thielen for something that makes a significant difference towards a Super Bowl? Best case, they get a 3rd rounder - from a team in playoff contention, so it's probably in the last third of the round. How much difference will that make?
Anyway, these possible trades are not for collecting draft resources, they are about dumping salary.

AT is a favorite player and I would hate to lose the public face of the franchise.  However, his chances of making a SB are much higher playing for a different team.   Plus, this team is not going be competitive for at least a couple years, more if we keep Zimmer and Spielman...

Anybody else just having an awful Fantasy Football season?  I drafted 10th in a 12 team league and my first draft picks were; Michael Thomas, Austin Eklar, OBJ, Dak Prescott, and Joe Mixon.  I've just been ravaged by injuries.

Lolz what? OBJ is one of the best receivers in the league, for some reason Cleveland doesn't want to get him the ball. He's had over 1000 yards receiving every year but 1...this will be 2. Don't let you personal feelings of not liking him create blinders. OBJ is a baller.
