My son and future daughter in law love it in the Denver western 'burbs. Its getting expensive there however as everyone is moving to Colorado! My wife and I love visiting them there. They are looking to buy their first house in late Spring.

I believe it. I experienced just how brutal it can be in Minneapolis on January 17th, 1999. The temperature was brutal too. Locals told me it was a heat wave.

Pffft, folks in ND drive to the Cities in January to get a break from the cold.

How about “happiness” and physical, emotional well being as a metric?

Aloha.

It is damned expensive, especially for the mountain west. I live in a very affordable house in Arvada. But I have a house in the Berkeley neighborhood of Denver (NW Highlands) that I rent out for a ridiculous amount. I couldn't afford to buy that house now, nor could I afford to rent it. My new tenants just moved from San Francisco. Their monthly income is almost half of my yearly income. It's depressing and exhilarating at the same time.

They rent in Arvada, live at a newer sub. called Village of Five Parks just off 86th Parkway. They like it there, I think he wants to stay close but housing prices will dictate.

They should rename it Calidaho from what I've heard. Not sure if my facts are correct but I have heard Californians have moved there in droves.

Every mountain state says that. Montana too. That will happen more and more as teleworking becomes easier and more common, especially when you can sell your 2BR in San Francisco for $1.8M and live like a king in Montana for a third of that. The only problem with Montana is there are no jobs there. But see above comment about teleworking.

best move we made was leaving California.

traffic, pollution, taxes, homeless, ineffectual / nonsensical leadership, corporate greed, assholes & narcissism...

We refer to So. CA. now as “concrete and assholes”

same with the Black Hills region of SD,  real estate has exploded to retarded levels.  hell there are idiots paying 1.2 million for 40 acre bare lots.... off mountain...just a view of the hills and I29 in between them and the forest.  no utilites at all,  just a blank canvas on the SD prairie.... just wait until they get their first winter storms and cant get into town for 2 days for their starbucks.

That's a good area. Smack dab between the #1 and #2 place to live in America. I'm not a big fan of suburbia, but as they go, the NW suburbs are the best.

Colorado is on my list of possibilities as I've enjoyed every trip there over the years. I'd been planning to move to downtown Minneapolis. However, the company I work for is finally starting to look at geography differently due to the pandemic so I'm waiting. If it's determined that I can do my job remotely on a permanent basis, I will be looking at everything differently (at least during the winter months).

Editing because I just remembered a trip. We flew in early morning. First it was sunny with decent temps. It seemed like it was going to be a nice day. Then there was light rain. Then there was extreme wind and the rain was sideways. Then it flurried. By the time we left that evening, we were driving through giant snowflakes.

Yep, that's Colorado. Saturday before Labor Day it hit 101 degrees. On Sunday, 97. On Monday, 93. Tuesday temps were in the 20s and we got 6 inches of snow. In just 4 days we set 3 records for heat, 3 records for cold, and 2 records for snow. And, of course, by the weekend it was in the middle 80s again. LOL.

Couldn't live in lily-white Boulder.

In my neighborhood community pool, I'm known as "white-chocolate THUNDER".  (our pool has BB goal, :) )

With no diversity in Boulder....Boulder/Diversity are strangers.  I guess the US Snooze/Whirled Report dis-regard "diversity".   How 80's.
