6-10
Yes I wanted a win, but at least the Vikings were in this fight, all the way to the end. That's better than the first two games.
I honestly think this team will find 6 wins this season. That would mean going 6-7 the rest of the way, which seems optimistic, but there's no doubt now that they are not going to intentionally tank and there are signs of improvement. If this was a young team being rebuilt, we would all appreciate those improvements.
But 6 wins, or even 5, will probably leave them drafting around #7-10 and beyond the reach of a franchise QB, and that won't matter anyway because Spielman and Zimmer will remain and keep Cousins and say that 2020 was just an off year jinxed with injuries and not enough time to prepare the team due to the pandemic.
I think Jefferson's emergence was a key to many of the other improvements like Cook's yardage. Without Diggs, we were simple for other teams to defend, but the offensive braintrust decided to give the rookie a shot, and look what happened.
Trading that 2nd round pick could really come back to hurt us if we are in that range and need to trade up to get one of the top QBs. I would trade every pick for the next two years to get Lawrence, can make a case he is the best QB prospect to go #1 since Peyton Manning.

If teams like the Bengals, Jets, Falcons, Lions, Giants, Dolphins, or Broncos are up in the top 1-5 picks (and the vikings aren't),... i think the Vikings will have enough trading power to move up.
It might cost them a second round pick in 2022 and a few mid-round picks in 2021,... but I do think Speilman will have the power to move up a few spots to get a QB.
Yep, Vikes are going to eek out some wins unfortunately. They'll fuck themselves in getting a QB, watch and see. And Z will take another corner. There are some really shit teams even worse than Minnesota in the NFL this year, the Vikings aren't the worst.
Good teams find ways to win. Bad teams invent ways to lose
Im firmly on the tank for trevor bandwagon. Im hoping that we’re looking in the max 3 wins. No idea how we beat most the schedual.
Unfortunately, I too am on board the tank train. I'll be far more disappointed in a 6 win season than 1 or 2 win season...

Easy choice.

He's not in shape yet either.

It hasn't resulted in any wins, we are likely not going to make the playoffs and it is not very likely with our payroll and the likelihood of us going into a complete rebuild mode that he will be resigning here next year, so in the long run it will really be a waste of a pick. We just didn't have the talent on this team for a trade like that to make sense.

I’m still hopeful he’ll re-sign. He looks like a really good player. But yeah if he leaves after this season then that trade was bigly boneheaded.
I got no issues trading a #2 for a 25 year old who makes splash plays like that. So we shouldn't acquire an all pro ceiling, pass-rushing talent who's in their 20's cause that alone isn't enough to win this year?
Silly notion. Thats exactly how you build a team. Acquiring him was as close to a sure thing pro-bowler as you can get, certainly more than a draft choice. And did I say he's only 25?
YN, Hendricks and Hunter are the future of this D.
All the DL love playing for Dre too. Resigning YN is the least of their worries (or mine).

THIS!
I haven't seen it mentioned in any articles or threads but Capers had something to do with this trade.
In 2019 he coached YN in J'ville as defensive specialist.

A disruptive player who is only 25 - happy to have him. But usually when a team trades for a player that is in the last year of his contract, they sign him to an extension as soon as they acquire him - like the Bears signed Khalil Mack to a multiyear deal immediately. Having Yannick here on a one-year deal is worrisome...he wasn't worth a high 2nd if he stays no longer than Sheldon Richardson.
Did the Vikings waive the right to place the franchise tag on him after the year?

A lot of NFL analysts were up in arms because he took 5 million less and can still be franchised in 2021.
He wanted out of J'ville as bad as Diggs wanted out of Minnesota.

Thanks. I knew he took less money, but wasn't sure if he could still be tagged next offseason. At least there's some protection from that standpoint.
I never thought I would jump on the tank train but what a train wreck. Lawrence, Fields or Lance. They need to get serious about a qb and OL and people to develop them.

He was not allowed to sign an extension because of being franchised and traded. I think the expectation is that they'll re-sign him unless there was something major like an injury or terrible culture fit.
I wouldn't be shocked by a 6-10 record this year. I had higher expectations, but the defense took a bigger step back than expected and the offense hasn't been able to carry the team so far. On defense, we lost our best pass rusher in Hunter for at least the first few games. Ngakoue is stepping up nicely and we're finally seeing some life out of the other ends. DT is a dumpster fire, they would have been better with Pierce, but they still need more talent there. The young corners have been up and down and they've had to deal with both Dantzler and Hughes being hurt and the safeties have generally struggled to make up for inexperienced corners and a lack of pass rush.
Offense is weird. I thought that they would be able to carry the team better than they have, but they have had their own struggles. Cousins has not been great. He's been forcing too many plays, holding onto the ball too long, and has not been utilizing all of the weapons in the passing game. Though with Jefferson having a breakout game, I'm more hopeful that the passing game will get stronger. The running game is still good, though playing from behind, has made it hard to lean on Cook as much as they'd like, though he showed yesterday that he still has it even though the fluke fumble was frustrating. The biggest issue I see right now are Cousin's inconsistency and the terrible interior pass protection, which to be fair are tightly linked. I'm not sure if there's a quick fix on the line, since Cleveland does not seem to be ready to contribute right away. Hopefully, Cousins can settle down and limit his mistakes,
I do have concerns about whether Cousins is the right fit long term. Despite recent struggles, he's not a bad QB, but he's not an elite QB either. He is prone to forcing things at time and takes some bad sacks. I'd like to at least have a viable backup, but we don't have that in Mannion, and they should really take a developmental QB. Though they also desperately, need a 3-technique.
