Hunter to IR.
#Vikings DE Danielle Hunter’s status for Sunday is very much in doubt, per me and @TomPelissero. If Hunter practices today, it will likely be limited. A situation to monitor.

Don't like neck injuries one bit.
This is something that could last all season if he isn't careful.
................NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Why or how is it that Hunter will be healthy in 3 weeks, when he already had a month to heal?
Ugh. I like Zim but his vagueness regarding injuries and the joy he seemingly takes in doing so is seriously annoying.
Hopefully Hunter can help the Vikes at some point this season. Preferably sooner rather than later. Neck stuff is tricky.
Damn....thought it was Zim "Gamesmanship"....Keep the Puke guessing...Then roll out Hunter and rip the baby a new one.
crapola
Color me unsurprised. He wasn't even doing walk through practices for the most part. In a preseason with no games, the lack of participation in mundane no contact practices coupled with the huge trade seemed obvious to me something was up.
neck injury is scary to hear...
Good thing we're only playing 3 playoff teams in a row to start the season. I believe Titans and Seahawks are both away games too.
Pierce and Hunter gone really, really sucks balls...
At least some decent news.
From @NFLTotalAccess: #Vikings DE Danielle Hunter should be off IR shortly, possibly even after just three weeks, while there is optimism that #Bucs WR Mike Evans (hamstring) will be OK by Sunday. pic.twitter.com/6i1MNrv6mM

Huge loss, wish him well for quick recovery but he and the vikings need to be very careful. Don't put him in too early and then get further dinged so out for rest of year...
Ngakoue and Odenigbo are still a good set of starting ends, though there will be a lot more pressure on Ngakoue to make an early impact. That also means that we likely won't be able to rotate Odenigbo inside in obvious passing situations. Is there any reason for optimism with Holmes, Yarbrough, & Wonnum? At least one of them will see significant snaps. Hopefully, Hunter can recover quickly.
Look at Aaron Rodgers’ eyes when @BillHuberSI breaks the news to him that he won’t have to face Danielle Hunter on Sunday. pic.twitter.com/T34xDNZXr5

Hopefully our young DB's are up to the challenge or Sunday will be a long day... IMO, with all the new pieces on defense, our offense will need to be effective and score 28 to win... Get it done Vikes, I don't mind eating crow!

Pass rush reduced without Hunter. Hate to be a downer, but it smells bad.
@"StickyBun" said:Personally, I think we lose by at least 10. I just don't see how this game coming up will be any different than the last game against GB. Maybe Dom Capers has a "new look" for the D? My other concern is the pass protection. I couldn't believe what the GB D did to us last game. Hope I'm wrong, of course. SKOL!@"IDVikingfan" said: Hopefully our young DB's are up to the challenge or Sunday will be a long day... @"StickyBun" said:It does indeed. Zimmer will have to pull out one of his Rodgers specials. I've never seen Rodgers more frustrated--and he gets frustrated a LOT--than he was in the final three quarters of that early game last year. They asked him what happened and he said "Zimmer happened."@"IDVikingfan" said: Hopefully our young DB's are up to the challenge or Sunday will be a long day... Hate to be a downer, but it smells bad. With young corners and little pass rush, Rodgers will almost certainly get his. Typically, you never want to blitz Rodgers, but this might be a game to dial up a few dogs.
@"MaroonBells" said:@"Jor-El" said: So will Jalyn Holmes get his first start?? Per the depth chart he is Hunter's backup. :/ I would think Yannick would play on the left and Odenigbo on the right.I'm a bit uncomfortable with a 246-pound strongside DE, but I see Ngakoue has played the left side.
Running game has to be real effective early to keep pressure of Cousins. Defensively, I might be crazy but I think they will be fine. Definitely going to take a great effort but I think they win this one to open the season.
JMO but with no preseason, NFL passing games aren't going to be sharp. Reps, timing and game time situation with contact just isn't the same in practice.
Consequently teams with strong running games will do better the first quarter of the season.
Last year in game Cousins threw the ball 10 times vs. ATL. Tough to do vs. GB but I bet thats what the Vikes want to try to do.
Just a little perspective...11 days ago we were ready to go to war with our young corners, Hunter on one side and Odenigbo on the other. And I think most of us felt OK about it. All we're doing now is replacing Hunter with Yannick...and that's not a big step down, if one at all.
Would it be juicier to have Hunter and Yannick on the field at the same time? Oh hell yeah. And I can't wait for that. But let's not forget that YN was a bonus addition no one expected.
Come on MB, don't be reasonable, we want it all! Gotta crush them packers!
