Vikings have 12 among players, coaches, staff test positive for COVID-19 amid reports of false resultsTeams around the NFL were reporting false positive tests in connection with a lab in New Jersey the league has used. The Vikings had eight players, one coach and three staff members who returned presumptive positive tests for COVID-19 on Sunday, on the same morning teams around the NFL were reporting false positive tests in connection with a lab in New Jersey the league has used to process daily test results for some teams.
Coach Mike Zimmer said the Vikings’ 12 affected people are quarantining Sunday and will watch the Vikings’ team meetings virtually instead of practicing. Further testing should give the Vikings additional clarity by Monday as to whether the players actually have COVID-19.
The Vikings will still practice as scheduled on Sunday afternoon, though the session might be shorter with temperatures in the high 80s and fewer players available to practice, Zimmer said.
“If these all turn out negative, then there was a problem at the lab,” Zimmer said. “Obviously, if they’re positive, there might be a problem with things we’re doing, or other teams are doing, or whatever. It’s hard for me to speculate now on what it is or what it was.”
The Vikings’ announcement comes after a spate of positive test results that caused teams to cancel practices or change plans. The Jets canceled a walk-through on Saturday night after reporting 10 false positive tests, and the Bears moved their Sunday morning practice back to the afternoon following nine false positives. The Browns canceled practice, and the Steelers announced they had six players held out of practice because of “adherence to the COVID-19 protocol,” though they said none of their players needed to go on the league’s COVID-19 reserve list.
“Saturday’s daily COVID testing returned several positives tests from each of the clubs serviced by the same laboratory in New Jersey,” the league said in a statement Sunday morning. “We are working with our testing partner, BioReference, to investigate these results, while the clubs work to confirm or rule out the positive tests. Clubs are taking immediate precautionary measures as outlined in the NFL-NFLPA’s health and safety protocols to include contact tracing, isolation of individuals and temporarily adjusting the schedule, where appropriate. The other laboratories used for NFL testing have not had similar results.”
While the Bears said they have a lab in Minnesota involved in their testing process, Zimmer said the Vikings do not send tests to a lab in Minnesota. He added he believes the Vikings’ tests on Sunday will go back to the same New Jersey lab that produced the false positives.
In the meantime, the Vikings will move forward with practice and hope further testing shows the group of 12 affected people doesn’t have coronavirus.
“Honestly, for us, it’s probably good that it happened now,” Zimmer said. “We were able to adjust and adapt and figure out the kinds of things that would happen if it did happen during the season and what we would do from there."

NEW YORK — The NFL had 77 positive COVID-19 tests from 11 teams re-examined by a New Jersey lab after false positives, and all those tests came back negative. The league asked the New Jersey lab BioReference to investigate the results, and those 77 tests are being re-tested once more to make sure they were false positives. Among teams reporting false positives, the Minnesota Vikings said they had 12, the New York Jets 10 and the Chicago Bears nine

who woulda thunk?  Perhaps they missed the memo that these tests were for the elites, not the masses.

Puppies are more than a handful, KB. Yours is so f-ing cute, but I will NEVER get a puppy again. EVER. The last one we had was a Springer Spaniel puppy and he was a nightmare the first 12 months. He ended up passing away after 14+ years three years ago but we rescue now. Its like having a newborn baby in the house, only without diapers and free range of the house.  :s

He's AWESOME KB!!!

That's going to be a biggun, i can tell by the paws.

Yup puppies are a PITA, the goal is to keep em alive lol! But you get the challenge and reward of molding them.

They can really get themselves into trouble easily. Enjoy it, they're only babies once.

That is one cute pup, KB. We had a 5 month old Borgi (Border Collie/Corgi mix) given to us about 3 months ago. LIttle bastard eats everything: power chords, mouses, shoes, lighters, pillows...he cannot be in the house unsupervised. We tried to relax with him couple nights ago, watch a movie. Lasted 5 minutes. He has no "park." Everything is hyperdrive. Really hoping that goes away.

Yeah, I'd have loved to have rescued but the list was so long one of the places responded and basically told me since I didn't have a family with a big yard I probably wouldn't be getting one. Which makes sense, the demand is huge.

And he's such a handful. Really is like a baby that just wants to chew through every wire, lick every electric socket, and the grossest and most dangerous garbage the second I turn my head. But it's worth it. So much fun waking up and going to the beach before the sun rises.

Sorry, bumping this on the night before gameday... Question for the dog experts:

My puppy just had one of his puppy friends over. We were letting them rough-house around the place, nothing crazy. From the hallway, we hear a lot of yelping and my friend's puppy runs out fine but my little guy doesn't come. I go find him and he VERY gingerly limps out into the living room, barely putting pressure on it.

I started gently applying pressure starting at the paw, going up the leg... nothing yet. Finally toward the joint/shoulder he whimpered a little bit. It's been an hour and he still won't put pressure on it.

Is it okay to let this go until the AM to see if it could just be a deep bruise? Or would you bring him in ASAP? His disposition seems fine, he's just a little sleepy as per usual right now...

Hope he's ok, probably is. I hate e-vets, but glad they are there when you need em.

That's a tough call...The question for me would be get him in tonight or later? Like tomorrow?

That'll have to be your gut call. If it worsens, or he's whimpering  I'd get him in sooner than later. Hopefully it just goes away.

What a cute pup. I would take him in but that's me. I hope it goes away though. Check in the morning and see how he is doing.

We have gone through this a few times, and you just have to trust your gut, the only thing you have to loose is the money by bringing in them in to soon.  If he's not whimpering and can get comfortable I'd avoid the E-Vet, but it's only money.  Good luck hope he's up and playing soon.

Thanks for the advice. I was looking for a doomsday "Oh my god, this happened to mine, it was XYZ and take him in immediately." Regardless, I called the emergency vet and she had the same sentiments: wait until morning unless he's whimpering or displaying weird behavior.

Just being a paranoid puppy dad...

Although today was a massive disappointment, it was just nice to have some normalcy for a change. And this little guy felt good enough get in on the "fun." (I cleaned the coffee table before putting food down...)

the only real caution i will share, go easy on fetch, they love it but a 50 to 70lb dog will over do what they are capable of.  knee replacements are expensive and take awhile to get rehab.

Good advice here, KB. More so with stairs: dogs love to fetch things and if the dogs have to go up and down stairs, like on an outdoor deck or inside, and go nuts like they love to do, here comes TPLO surgery at some point. Had a Springer Spaniel and had both knees done (ugh).

Wow!!

He's growing fast!

How's the limp? I'll bet Zimmer has a worse limp today?

He's better but still has a hobble. The vet said to wait another week before letting him play (which kills me, all he wants to do is romp).

Sticky: I'm taking it extra careful, thanks. Found out his pet insurance (never knew this existed until a month ago) has a 6 month waiting period for orthopedic issues. Hoping it's just a muscle pull, otherwise this just would've been a reasonable deductible and not the thousands it'll cost to fix otherwise...
