Fauci weighs-in re: NFL Season (or not)

One thing I read elsewhere, is that the NFL is mandating no camps start until all camps can start across the states.

They don't want any franchise to get an unfair advantage over another. 

I'm going to start calling him Dr. Grouchy if he messes with my NFL season. 

Depressing. This thing keeps vacillating between encouraging news to discouraging. I suppose that's normal. And will continue for quite some time.

I flew to San Francisco last weekend and there were people out on the beach at Crissy Field as if it were a normal summer day. Distanced of course, but out running, biking, swimming. Came back and Denver's airport seemed oddly busy. Next day, my son had a baseball game. Parents in the stands, distanced, but probably not as much as we should've been. Still, it felt good. Felt like summer. Felt like all was right with the world. That feeling is contagious, and I suppose a little dangerous. 

But as I've said all along, we have to be able to tolerate a certain degree of increased cases as we try to slowly get back to our lives, get people back to work, etc. Spiking and careening out of control, no, shut it all down again. But we have to expect an increase as we carefully finesse the right amount of laissez-faire.

People need to stay vigilante even though they are going thru virus fatigue. But they can NOT shut down the economy again. Can't happen. It will have truly long-lasting and devastating results. Even the medical doctors agree with that.

I sure hope we have an NFL season. My psyche needs it. I have no intention of going to a game this year without a vaccine, but I want to watch football again. 

It is really hard to get excited about anything now ain't it.
I take it one weekend one event at a time. Going to try and have as normal a summer as possible. Things just started feeling normal. Somethings I enjoy are starting back up. One thing I found out was lost permanent. I wear my mask in public. I keep my distance. Hell even before all this I was about not getting in people's faces or them mine. 
Football is a passion for me/us. It's every fall weekend plan. I have decided to wade in carefully this year. I don't want to invest too much emotionally just to lose it before the season starts. I've gotten used to emotional let down at the end.
This uncertainty is taking the enjoyment out of the excitement of a new season.

I think anything Fauci says needs to be taken with a grain of salt at this point. Don't think i'd want him as a bookie.

So what do you do if say 2 weeks from now the trend upward in deaths has us right back to the higher teen to low 2 thousand deaths per day like we where when NYC was getting slammed?  We've got 4 states that are trending significantly upward.  Do you close state boarders with those states and only close them down?  Is it local measures?  What at this point can be done to figure this thing out?
I can tell you as a father, if there isn't school this fall/winter/spring that will devastate the economy even if there isn't a general shutdown.

Fans will know if an NFL  season is possible if/when NBA and/or  MLB resume play. 

If those leagues fail, the NFL 2020 season will be cancelled IMO

21 Clemson football players tested positive and 3 MLB teams just shut down their facilities, because of positive tests.  We all want things to go back to normal, but it really doesn't matter what we want, because it is the virus that is going to dictate what is actually possible.  And right now the virus is saying a big no.

I have no idea what (if any) kind of season we'll have. Would not surprise me to have an abbreviated season of some sort with teams quarantined for that abbreviated season in warmer weather climates...Although right now some of those states are having a very rough go (i.e. Zona, FL etc).

Hell, the virus may even trump cash! And the nfl is big, big $$$...It would be a huge blow in so many ways if the season didnt happen at all. I really hope it doesnt come to that. Americans really gotta take this seriously still.

I don't understand why Fauci is being asked this question.  His job is to advocate for the medically optimal solutions and to inform us about the science related to what's going on, but he is not equipped and has no expertise to discuss any of the things that you have to balance with what's going on.  The politicians jobs are to weigh the pros and cons of all the input they are getting from a wide variety of experts, of which Fauci is one.
Let's talk about a separate point that no one is talking about.  "Should the players get paid, if they don't play any games?  If so, what percentage of their game checks should they get?"  I'm under the impression that they will get very minimal amounts of money at best since most of their contracts are based on games being played.  A very large percentage of players are living paycheck to paycheck due to extravagant lifestyles and could default on their loans or have their homes repossessed. 

Are NHL, NBA, MLB players getting paid? I don't even know...

The big question for me is when will I get my season tix $ back from Zygi if there is no season? I've got plenty of other ways to spend that dough. 

I am starting to think that no season isn't that far-fetched.  Virus numbers are spiking in a number of states and many experts are saying wave two hasn't even arrived yet.  Hope I'm wrong because I love football but would not be shocked if we don't see it this fall.

Key metric is # of hospitalizations - and not overloading the medical system. 

21 Clemson players tested positive recently too. 

I don't know if we'll have a season either. If I had to bet, it will be some sort of abbreviated season, quarantined players/coaches/training staff - and without fans in the stands. 

10 weeks between now and opening week? Thats not a lot of time.

We're seeing a lot of positive COVID cases in Florida because we are testing a lot more. The average age went down to 36 years old compared to over 60 a few months ago. People aren't wearing masks where they should be. Restaurants have live music and at night its a dance club, nobody doing any social distancing.

Wow... that's no time at all. Things are looking grim in regards to the season happening, I'd say. At least as far as it happening on time.
MLB and CFB seem all but toast. NBA has a chance and I'd hoped NFL could figure something out. Now I'm not so sure. What a drag.
