Oh boy....
When I moved down south, I found this kind of "humor" was way too easy, it was just built in. Then when I came back I found out it was just as easy, it's just local coding and different dog whistles. I guess that's what is meant by systemic.
are we sure Jake isn't one of those crazy white people out on the streets breaking shit who just got exposed for saying something stupid?

Since he didnt claim the sarcastic angle one has to think the latter.

There is a cultural element here...
Our generation (s) have had relatively high tolerance for this. Not to overly generalize, but we've historically tended to lol and move on with our day.
Speaking to the 20 somethings? Their energy and passion for change (far beyond what we think is change) is where I pin my hopes.
I think there's a young and dumb angle to Fromm's posting to consider in addition to more dark takes on it. Be interesting to see how his team-mates decide to internalize it.

America is having one of the most honest conversations about race out on the streets of this country night after night. This kind of news and the reaction that is perceived to it is exactly why nothing gets done about race in this country. White guilt.
I have no clue what you are getting at, is there a point you want to make?
lets not let this take off in a non football related direction, this is about what a football player said, not about a bunch of other people that would take it somewhere that doesnt belong on a football board.
I don't really find it fair that some "friend" can screw someone over by putting part of a private text conversation from a year or two ago. First of all it was a private conversation, secondly Fromm was obviously being sarcastic in his remarks.
I would love to have access to text conversations of all these guys who are out crucifying Fromm over this. I guarantee there is so much more appalling things you would find.

If I were a potential star athlete, or had any aspirations to lead anything, I would completely turn off social media. Too many vultures looking for a payday.

Twitter did not make the post. Jake did. I would rather people speak their mind and we know who they truly are and hear what they say/think instead of avoiding twitter (or whatever medium they fear of doing do using).I agree though there are people out there that would twist anything you say but that can be part of the discussion. We can't live a life of fear because someone may twist what we said/say.
The bedrock of freedom and free speech is you are free to do whatever you want as long as it does not take away or threaten another person's freedoms to do same.
That's the beauty of freedom - everyone is bestowed the power to make that judgement. When that is taken away from someone then we no longer have freedom. In a nutshell, your freedom is not more important than mine.
Case in point the Laura Ingram flip flop where she said...
To Lebron James: "he should shut up and dribble" - essentially taking away his freedom of speech.
To Drew Brees: "he has the right to voice his opinion" - allowing Brees his freedom of speech. That is the type of bias we need to call out and eradicate and that only gets dealt with if exposed (I know this was on TV) so having more ways to engage in public or social discourse is good.
Lastly, if someone is stupid enough to post something insensitive/hurtful, they will get criticized and hopefully learn from their mistakes.
