MY first concern is for the players, coaches and staff, then my asz as a fan. Can they keep them/us safe?

Is there alignment on what "safe" means?

For me? A season tix holder since Warren Moon days? I have no intention of stepping foot in a stadium this fall. Already paid for my season tix for 2020 too. Not without a vaccine...

Hell, I'm already figuring out ways to spend my season tix refund cause its clear there won't be a vaccine this calendar year. Not for 300mm Americans.

That said, I suspect this will be the reaction of many if there isn't pro/college FB this fall:

I think we should all just expect that several players are going to get Covid. I'm sure the NFL knows this, but what I'm curious about...is there a percentage they will tolerate before shutting it all down again? These players are some of the most fit humans on the planet. I'm sure the danger to their lives/careers is infinitesimal.

Probably right...but what do they do when inevitably the Left OT, R OG comes down with Covid for a big game?

Treat it the same as an injury and next man up? Quarantine the whole positional group for 14 days?

So many details to work through re meetings, therapy etc...I'm sure those discussions are going down now.

As a season tix holder, I just hope they can keep the players safe and I have ZERO intention of going to a game with 70,000 other people as of May.

Will be interesting to see the player proposals - which should be soon

i think when an antibody test is available for wide spread distribution we will be surprised to find out how many are already exposed.

PF, as you've said before as a self proclaimed germaphobe, you seem to be deeply effected by this. We have 1 other friend that is a germaphobes and she too is extremely worried and paranoid still. I feel badly for people that are still severely impacted mentally and emotionally. It must be exhausting.

IMO, its time to move forward smartly and that's being done. People are going out. Overwhelmingly, people not only survive this, but do so with medium to low symptoms. My wife and I have gone out, eaten out, gotten drinks and been out with larger groups in outside restaurant settings. It won't be perfect. But if there's NFL games, I would attend them. I will go to a sports bar. And I know a lot of others will to. NYC is by FAR the epicenter. They'll have to abide by different rules longer. I think more people have been infected than anyone really knows, in a way that would bring down the mortality rate further than it currently is.

Again, JMO. No better than anyone else's.

There is no way we can survive with a locked-down economy and we have to open-up smartly. So I get that in spades - but I'm not aligned with how some states are doing it. GA vs CA or MN for example.

My current job means I am out with the public, meeting new folks and selling 5 days a week. We're required to wear a mask, gloves and hope for some good luck and an angel on the shoulder too.

But yah, we all have different tolerances for things and Covid exposure for sure. It will be very interesting to see what happens between now and September or Sept vs November regarding packing stadiums with fans.

As of today, I have no intention of going to a stadium with 68,000 other people this fall.

Granted, a long ways away.

Colleges are opening in August....hotels are opening back up in June. Life is to be lived and we aren't talking about the bubonic plague here with COVID. We are social animals, its in our DNA. We need our creature comforts, our entertainments, our escapes. And we will have them as a human race to our detriment at times. But its like getting mad at the fox for eating the chickens when you put him in the chicken coop: its its nature. And that is ours.

Again, I want to stress this: its just my opinion. I don't want this to be some kind right/wrong scenario. I respect your feelings on it.

I fully suspect the modern Roman coliseums will be open for the appeasement of the masses.
If your refund isn't successful, please consider me in your will.  :)  I would happily go to a game.

Each of us has to make our choices and we'll have different tolerances to things...As of now, I won't live life too scared - but also have my personal lines I won't cross if I have to regarding Covid.

Edit: Didnt mean to s hit all over your thread SB...I hope they can pull of a season reasonably safely and fans get some well earned diversion too.

At my work I"m listed as "Essential", so I have missed zero days off.  To me it's like any other day, just with a mask.  When I'm outside, I don't wear one.  Over time, people  will eventually go back to their everyday routines regardless.

Dolphins owner: There definitely will be an NFL season

By STEVEN WINE Associated PressMay 26, 2020 — 11:58am
MIAMI — Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross says he's confident the NFL will play in 2020, with or without spectators.
“I think there definitely will be a football season this year,” Ross said Tuesday during an interview on CNBC. “The real question is will there be fans in the stadiums?"
The NFL has said it expects to play a full schedule beginning Sept. 10, but is preparing contingency plans in case the coronavirus pandemic makes venue changes or games without fans necessary.
“Right now, today, we’re planning on having some fans in the stadiums,” Ross said. “But I think the NFL is very flexible so that we will be able to start on time and bring that entertainment that is really so needed to all of us in this country.”
The league has kept to its offseason schedule of conducting free agency, the draft and the release of the schedule. Some teams reopened training complexes on a limited basis last week.
The NBA, NHL and MLB have been idled by the pandemic.
"One thing we miss is our sports,” Ross said. “I don’t think a lot of people realize it until they no longer have it. Certainly the NFL, I think, will be ready to go. I know we’re all looking forward to it. I know I am.”
Earlier this month, the Dolphins said their stadium committed to becoming the first to receive accreditation from a cleaning industry association for infectious disease prevention efforts. CEO Tom Garfinkel said the team is considering social distancing proposals for games, and perhaps limiting crowds to 15,000.
“We’ve done a lot of things down in Miami," Ross said. “We’re prepared either way, and hopefully there will be fans in the stadiums."
Ross, a New York real estate developer and chairman of Related Companies, said the hotel and retail industries are being hit hardest by the pandemic.
“You are going to have such a flood of cases going to the bankruptcy court,” Ross said.

You are going to have to have some fans in the stands. It will not be close to full, of course not. Can't be yet. But it'll be way to odd and weird without at least 10,000 fans placed around a stadium that holds 70,000. You can socially distance that amount. You can safely exit them and enter them at that amount. Slow entry and slow exit. Spaced.

I think I heard them say last night that one stadium,  i didnt catch which one,  was modeled for hosting fans in a way that would honor social distancing and they said they would get about 3800 fans in there and be able to keep people spaced out enough to have good egress and what not.

NBA, MLB and NHL will show if playing is possible.

my guess is the season gets cancelled if any team, in any sport has an outbreak such that they can't compete.

NFL will be able to learn by the examples of MLB,NHL and NBA.

It's like a big science experiment that involves billions of dollars, I wanna see how this plays out.ff.

I agree,  imo the players unions will be a big part of how this all goes down.  Although I also think the potential loss of billions in contracts will make them play regardless.

they already liken themselves to gladiators, playing this brutal game despite the longterm health issues it causes.  Catching a flu probably isn't gonna stop them.
