@"MaroonBells" said: I think Mattison is a helluva backup and if Cook were hurt he could come in and, on the surface, we wouldn't appear to lose much. He'd get his 80-100 and a TD or two, but we would make adjustments because defenses would play us differently as well. Love Mattison but he's no Dalvin.
Mattison doesnt seem to have the home run gear that Cook does.  Other than that IMO they are very similar in production.  If Mattison could find a bit more top end speed I think he would be in the discussion.  While Cook seems more elusive and leads to missed tackles,  Mattisons running style seems to cause more broken tackles IMO.

Does this signing all but wipe out available cap space or was that already accounted for?

Harris is a stud and has been for years. It’s the one area I got annoyed with Zimmer on. Harris was superior to Sendejo well before Zimmer trusted him to start. I don’t know the dynamics of that whole situation, but at least to me it wasn’t close. I wanted him signed long term two seasons ago. He’s much more expensive now.

It comes down to philosophy, but I consider safety very underrated. An instinctual Safety can be a big difference maker and can mess with a QB. Harris has outstanding instincts, sound tackling, and solid coverage ability. I say pay the man. He’s earned it and will continue to do so moving forward.

Sadly, as is the case with every player around Smith's age, he's at the point of diminishing. 31 years old, heavy hitter, played a lot of snaps. Might not happen drastically this year, but his play is going to fall off the table at some point in the near future. And once he can be game planned for because of that, he's a liability.

its already starting to show thin at times,  similar to Greenways game,  they were asked to do so many things out there that as they started to lose half a step it was magnified because of just how much they were doing and helping cover for others on the field.   HS could play a more traditional safety roll for several more years, but being the swiss army knife for Zim it will make him look deficient much sooner IMO.
