Time for some good news / parent brag thread
In a different year, there would have been a triumphant walk across the
stage to thunderous applause and a party to be remembered. In 2020, it
was a rather humble, "I am done." as he walked up from his room where he had finished his last semester of college.
And then he shared this video he
received from the dean of his college that he was named the University's Outstanding Musician. It hit me at that point, my son completed his degree in 4 years, with a 3.75 GPA and has a job lined up. Pretty dang impressive for anyone in this day. Considering the odds that were against him from 8 months old, this is barely shy of a miracle.
As a 20 year cancer survivor, blind musician, and now a college graduate, it sucks that we didn't get to celebrate at his university. He did the work, on a foundation laid by his mother who would never give up on him, and with the immense aid of his amazing vision specialist that adapted his material from grade school all the way through high school. She even learned calculus with him as she adapted the text to Braille for him. And thanks to the school of music who were excited to take on the challenges of a blind student, willing to adapt and learn and grow themselves. Believe me, it isn't easy taking material geared towards sight, and make it translate to auditory only.
So with a special thanks to all those who affected his life along the way, and to his indomitable spirit, let me share my joy with my fellow fans here, the graduation of my son.
He is an accomplished pianist/keyboardist, going into film scoring of all things and dang good at it. He was part of an ensemble that has an album on itunes, composed one of the songs for that album. He composed the score and did the mixing for a 30 minute documentary for a local campaign to end domestic violence.

That is fantastic! God bless him. Hell, I’m proud of him from afar—I can only imagine how you feel! And with that doc. He’s already making a difference. Hope I meet him someday.

On a sidenote: I'm also just glad my son's job is safe. Lots of younger kids have had to move back home because they've been laid off. And what a horrible year to be a new grad and trying to find their first jobs. I feel so bad for them.
That is fantastic. Congrats to him for having his hard work pay off. It does suck that he wasn't able to celebrate the ceremony. He has definitely beaten the odds. Good for him and good luck to him on the next chapter of his new adventure. Look forward to hearing his work in the future.
That is out fucking standing!!! He is certainly a marvel for all that he has over come and its a testament to not only his own drive and determination but to that of his supporting cast. I know the effort it takes to raise perfectly healthy kids, I cant imagine the extra attention and effort required of his parents and siblings. Congratulation to your son as well as you and the rest of your family. You all have a lot to be proud and grateful for!

I am so proud for you and your wife, as well as him. I know it's tough for everyone involved in raising a child but for you and your wife you have both spent a lot of time and effort and you should be extremely proud. Tell him congratulations from the Robison family. That is a special child you have and I hope he has a great career.

As an absolute non-artist, I don't always get him, but proud as can be for what he has done. And eternally grateful to those who have played a part in his success.

I saw a video of an Idaho lake with perch that look like footballs a few years ago.
I absolutely love these proud parenting moments. Good stuff and thank you for sharing. Your son is showing a job well done by his parents.
