Not to mention we’re in salary cap hell for the forseeable future.

Actually our current projected 2021 cap space is just shy of 33 million per over the cap...

Are you saying we're 33 million over in 2021 or have 33 million in available dollars?

We've already weathered the worst of the cap hell. 30+ million next year and that's with Reiff on the books for ~$14 million.

It doesn't included Anthony Harris money or Dalvin Cook though. Still, we should be in pretty good shape. One thing to consider is that Cousins 2022 contract (a whopping $41M hit) becomes fully guaranteed in 2021.

But just looking at the depth chart for 2021, this team will be remarkably young, particularly on the OL, DL and secondary. The 2021 draft should probably focus on replacing blue-hairs like Thielen, Harrison Smith, and Rudolph.

2021 looks like a good TE class...with a reduced Rudy cap number, and Stephen and his $5 million jettisoned, we are easily in the mid $50 million range...subtract out $22+ million for Harris and Cook...and voila...

Harrison with $10+million in 2021 with zero dead cap...he might be due for a redo...

I wonder if we have any intention of paying Kirk $41 million...that's load the team on your back and drag them into the playoffs money no matter what the circumstances are...

And Harris is yet to sign his franchise tag...

I think that guy took his ball and went home.

It appears so. Too bad. I enjoyed reading his takes. I guess he didn't like reading mine.

Honestly, I stopped enjoying his takes about 4 months ago...I don't need to be bludgeoned with anyone's opinion...

I thought FSU was a very well thought out and intelligent poster and we can always use as many of those as possible. I might not have agreed with him most of the time and did find a negative view on many things but I also gained perspective that helped form my opinions.

In the many years blogging on numerous Viking sites FSU was no where near the antagonists or off-topic a-holes that I have come across.

I do prefer a site where opinions differ and things don't spiral into insults.  Otherwise a site can just become an echo-chamber of agreement and self pats on the back.

(Disclaimer:  I am just a Viking fan who has been blogging on sites for about 25 years.  None of my post's come from a place of expertise.  They just come from years of being a diehard fan...SKOL :)

I thought the same thing, but when you think about it, Cousins' cap hit going into 2020 (before the extension) was $31M, it's now $21M for 2020, $31M for 2021 and $41M for 2022, so the average hit over 3 years is exactly the same. And we'll be in a much better position to tolerate that hit in 2022. And hopefully a better idea of who Cousins is at that point. With better protection and hopefully some serious continuity in Kubiak's offense, is he worthy of another extension? Or do we draft his replacement?

Vikings have been criticized for that extension, but I think it was well conceived. I can't help but be encouraged by his clean pocket grade. For most of the season, he was #1 in the NFL. I think he finished 4th overall. Let's see what he can do given the kind of protection he's never had.

The line in '21 could look like this...

LT: Cleveland
LG: Udoh
C: Bradbury
RG: Samia
RT: O'Neill

That's a super young, high upside line that could be together for years.

I think they best be looking at a top QB in next years draft.
