Rookie LT against Khalil Mack.  Twice.  Did Kirk Cousins make you the beneficiary of his life insurance policy?

O'Neill at LT and Cleveland RT I could see.

very likely limited to no offseason to work live at a new position which will require him to reverse everything he has been doing for the last 2 years?   no way is that a good idea.  Leave ONeill at RT and dont even think like that again.

Udoh handled Mack the last game of the season...even pancaked him once.

More often than not Mack lines up against the RT. And Cleveland is one of those LT only types. Best to just leave him there and leave O'Neill where he is. We don't want to create new problems we didn't have before. And AV is right. Udoh--not only a rookie but a small school, 6th round rookie--damn near shut down Mack week 17.

Speaking of Udoh, if he proves impossible to keep on the bench, the line might look like this....

LT: Cleveland, Hill
LG: Reiff, Collins
C: Bradbury, Jones
RG: Udoh, Samia
RT: O'Neill, Hill

yeah so whats that have to do with moving ONeill to LT where he has no experience being a bad idea in an offseason that will likely see very limited live drills?  I also have my doubts about how prepared/motivated Mack was to play in what was a meaningless game,  not to take away from Udohs good showing,  but I am not ready to grant him a starting spot just yet.

But then both of them are changing sides - that makes it worse IMO. Of course, O'Neill played LT in college so he ought to be OK, but he has clearly adjusted to RT.
Ezra Cleveland makes a lot more sense than Trent Williams if you don't expect the NFL to have a full season in 2020. Just sayin'.

Udoh is a nice prospect, still learning however. I think 2021 he might be the primary backup swing tackle and Rashod Hill will be gone. That would be a great development for a project like Udoh.

Really any prospect you had with a starting grade would have been better than backing up the brinks truck for Trent Williams. There is no denying Trent's talent but an average contributor at LT for $1M against the cap is far more valuable than an all-pro at $17M+. Not that Trent is a "sure thing" but you know what you're getting more than in Cleveland.

Didn't Collins work at LG the preseason before he got hurt?

It's got nothing to do with moving O'Neill to LT.  Just pointing out Udoh's play during the last game.  Nothing else.  Lighten up.

Don't disagree with anything you're saying, but there's one factor you're not mentioning: if we pull off the trade for Trent, we don't have to draft the OT at #58....and so any one of those players who went between Cleveland and Dantzler are in play for us. For example, DJ Wonnum becomes Josh Uche, KJ Osborne becomes Denzel Mims, James Lynch becomes either Madubuike, Gallimore or Elliott.  Not advocating for any of those players, but you get my drift...

I can say pretty confidently that the play likely would have been Okwara or Madubuike, but that is a good point. MN likely would have needed to give up a 4 & 5 this year to get Trent but like you said you'd no longer have a need for Wonnum and we'd have kept our 5th instead of trading it into the future.

The cap implications of trading for Williams was a bigger concern for me than the draft capital. I do hope that drafting Cleveland and in general their effort to get rid of expensive players & get dramatically younger will get the team out of cap Hell. Though I kind of suspect that Spielman may not want to give up getting compensation picks every year & may continue a measured approach to FA even when the cap opens up.

I agree with you here Tyr. Obtaining Williams in a trade makes things really interesting for Anthony Harris, so maybe that second round pick was a safety instead of Cleveland or a DT? Also, you have to get Williams to commit long term otherwise you probably draft Cleveland anyway. I'm happy with how it turned out because I like Cleveland, but he hasn't played yet so who the heck knows?
