He does compete. He can play the run. He’s a good football player, but he’s not special.” Wonderlic of 26 was second-best among DTs. “Doesn’t have long speed but does a nice job getting skinny and has good feel for the game,” a third scout said. “Plays hard. Don’t see the athleticism.”
Dye:
“He just has a knack in coverage. He does need to get bigger and stronger.” Underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in January and couldn’t work at the combine. “He gets the ball,” said a third scout. “He plays long. There’s a little bit of finesse to his game, and it frustrates you at times. But most of the time those guys get more physical. They figure out they need to be more physical as a pro. They can’t just run around. I was thinking second or third round. Because of the injury, I could see him getting to the fourth and eventually becoming a starter and being a really good pick if he gets his head on and eats.”
Dye doesn't remotely fill an obvious hole unless he moves to Safety. Ugh. So many good O-Linemen left and a couple of potential pass rushers too.

Dye in the Kearse role seems to make more sense than OLB...

Chris Trapasso CBS loved the pick and gave the the pick an A.
Dye is a long, coverage specialist with vast experience. Awesome in zone and can run with TE down the seam comfortably. Good not great range and athleticism. Awesome depth at LB for Minnesota.

Tommison called him a replacement for Brothers...not astute
One of the CBS taking heads said the new LB role is, paraphrased, a hybrid LB/S. More emphasis on pass coverage than run stopper. Dye should fill that role.
Dye is a totally different animal than Brothers. He's a MLB but not a fit for nickle CB or S.
Brothers is more like EJ Henderson, a 2-down downhill thumper. Dye is more of a 3-down ILB like Kendricks who is better in coverage but going to need to add strength.
Watched every game of his career at Oregon, he's a great kid with great instincts. Also, he could easily play ILB next to Kendricks in a 3-4 ... don't forget we have Dom Capers, and all 3 of these picks in Round 4 would be scheme fits for a 3-4.
