I agree with Jimmy on this.  I work in the Health Care Industry, not on the front lines but supporting them.  I totally get the severity of this virus but like Jimmy said we can't just keep everything shut down for a year or whatever it takes to come up with a vaccine.  Not only would the US economy collapse but there's a good chance the entire world's economic structure would collapse.  There has to some sort of balance, like Jimmy said between the end of 2019 and now.

about "Herd Immunity" until everyone is tested.  Yeah, everyone
that's immune should be able to continue on with their lives as usual, but we
have no clue who's immune or not.  Now there's evidence that those that
have had COVID-19 are getting tested positive again.  They are either gettting sick again, or spreading it to others.

A restaurant/bar with 25 employees opens but only 5 employees are willing to go
into work unprotected just to be a "good American" and help "the economy".  Are
the other 20 fired because they don't want to spread around the virus with reckless
abandon?

This is serious, and placing
timetables on when it's safe based on the economy is only going to make things
worse.  These "minor flare-ups"  could be just as bad as it
is now, and cost the US another 10, 20, or maybe 50 thousand more lives.

Like me, you're just guessing, Jimmy, and my guess
is way safer.  People can't gather until we know who's immune or not. 

That includes athletes playing professional sports, I would assume.

as far as people getting it again,  they dont know if they got the tests right in the begining,  there are false negatives and false positives,   more information is needed for sure.

as far as who works and who doesnt... thats not my call,  but I do know that as a country we can afford to pay everybody for a year to not go to work.   the economics are just not doable.  so yes if people dont want to go to work they wouldnt get paid,  they can stay on unemployment until that runs out but an indefinite stay at home for the whole country is not going to happen.

i know how serious it is,  look back at the timeline of this virus,  i was one of the first on the board to start raising an alarm and pushing the facts of the virus,   but there is also an over reaction and just like everything else that kills people,  there will always be an acceptable loss number.  we all fly on airlines,  knowing one could crash,  we all drive in cars,  knowing one could crash  we all do a lot of shit daily that could end our lives,  but we do it because the odds say that it wont happen.   

people will start to gather again,  in controlled numbers and situations,  this will be the new norm,  and there will be micro out breaks,  not unlike any other virus that we have dealt with for our whole lives.    this is a super flu.. what extended precautions have been taken in the past despite local outbreaks.  I am not saying its life as usual,  but we need to start to try and find a safe new norm because staying home isnt sustainable or realistic.

and yes,  athletes will gather as well,  if they want to get paid.   I would guess a pro athlete in their prime takes greater risks in their social lives than what they would see being exposed to covid in their 20s.

he even closes with there has to be some merger of wants vs needs.  this country needs an economic push,  and staying at home isnt going to deliver that push.  a slow reopening of the country needs to be attempted where it is most safe,  and adding from there.  it will be a challenge,  but it will work if people dont give up on the social distancing and other precautions.  I say follow the small group thing and shit like that,  but a lot of the country needs to be allowed to start going back to work.
