Not sure if this has any legs at all or just more offseason rumor mongering:

The #Vikings are expected to trade S Anthony Harris. A deal could be done as soon as next week. Minnesota is looking to acquire a offensive lineman in return for Harris.

p.s. I see this was posted in another thread, feel free to delete. Might be worthy of its own thread, however.

Couldn't find the other post, so please don't delete. This is interesting and not the 1st time we've heard it (re: Cleveland) so maybe there is some truth.

Could they be after Jack Conklin so soon after he signed with the Browns? I doubt it. I've always been a big fan of Joel Bitonio. Thought he was the most underrated player in the 2014 draft. He shot up draft boards after his combine and went 35 overall to the Browns. He's been All Pro the last two seasons, has the movement skills for zone, and his 99.5 pass blocking efficiency is 2nd in the NFL. Make it happen, Rick, and we can forget all about the Diggs fiasco.

I doubt it too.

With Stefanski there I expect a little more sanity out of the Browns...I'm not going to hold my breath for them to trade away an All Pro OL who's a good fit for their scheme.

Much as I'd like it...

and speaking of songs stuck in ones head,  every time I read or hear Joe Bitonios name it reminds of Batano and that makes  me think of this song...

I wouldn't think the Vikings would trade Smith for a player in the secondary, but who knows? I'm not sure how I feel about trading the guy anyway, but if it happens I hope its for a starting OL.

I just continue to wonder how we could go into next season with only 1 returning starter in the defensive backfield, if this trade were to happen. I mean, that’s insane to me. Granted, I will fully admit I’m nowhere near the Xs and Os fan that most here on the board are, but that’s a lot of lost experience.

BTW, I’m not bi&$@$#*, I’m just lost and want to know the plan....

It is interesting that the Vikings restructured Hunter's deal.  You would think there is a corresponding move.

Maybe they will stupidly give Cook a massive extension with that money?

Maybe they will go after Clowney?  That would make the most sense to me but paying him more than Hunter wont sit well past this season.  I doubt they do this though.

So who?

If they get Williams from the Skins then they need to release Reiff.  Moving him to guard is one of the dumbest ideas that keeps getting repeated all over the place with no basis in fact.  When was the last time Reiff played guard?  2009.  Why pay him his salary to SEE if he could play guard?  Why not get someone who has played guard recently?

Harris and Reiff for Williams and Dunbar.

You should probably just get used to it. Cook is a part of this.

I never post what I think they will do.  I usually post what I would do.  Paying Cook big bucks does not seem like a good idea.

What would you offer him if you were GM and what are the chances you think he would accept your offer?

Interesting trade idea.   I was also thinking of Harris and Reiff for Williams and Mclaurin, tho not sure about salaries and if the Skins would let Mclaurin go.

I would extend him. Probably 4 year deal. The amount is meaningless, but when it happens, he will likely be the highest paid back in the NFL, or very close to it. Not because he's the best back in the NFL (he may; he may not be), but because of the timing. By the end of the contract, he will not be anywhere close to the highest paid back...

...lather, rinse, repeat....

I like that you specify whether you're predicting the Vikings' actual actions or what you would recommend- too often we don't distinguish the two.
If it were me, I would ask him to play in 2020 on the contract he signed, and show us a full season of health and productivity. There are too many examples of teams losing piles of money by overpaying RBs (Todd Gurley, David Johnson, Jerrick McKinnon), NFL teams are not fighting to sign RBs, and a hallmark of the Gary Kubiak offense is running success without a premier RB. Cook wouldn't like that, but what are his options? Holding out and demanding a trade achieved nothing for Melvin Gordon last year. Besides, holding out is a weakened threat if the NFL season might be delayed or even canceled.

Whether or not they extend Cook, Vikings should pick another RB in the draft - maybe Darrynton Evans in the 3rd.
But I think the Vikings will give Cook a large extension soon.

I agree with you. The only thing I would say is that the market already knows about the "RB problem." You can argue about overpaying Gurley, McKinnon, etc., But the "problem" is already baked into their contracts. Last time I checked, among the top 50 highest paid players in the NFL, only 1 was a running back.

If he shows a full season of health and productivity then we are bidding against other teams for him.   Letting him play out the contract is really just a different way of saying we will be parting ways at some point.

Personally I would offer an extension with health incentives.   The more he's on the field the more he makes.

This also spells out how RBs were the biggest losers with the new CBA. But analytics as a whole have really poked quite a few holes in the value of running backs, even those on rookie contracts. At the end of the day the value is in the O-line, and scheme. Regardless of how talented you are as a player what happens before you touch the ball has the most bearing on the outcome of the play.

Just read another unsubstantiated rumor that the Patriots are very interested in him. Could it be Harris for Thuney? Both are tag and trade candidates valued at around 3rd round value.
