I wish you were correct, but I just read that his 2022 salary is guaranteed on the 3rd league day of 2021. So we'd basically have to cut him after THIS season (not the following one, unfortunately), or extend him further at some point, to alter that 2022 number. And if we cut him after this season, his 2021 cap hit is $31M. Ouch. Again, this is all if I'm understanding this all correctly.
The bottom line I see is that Kirk Cousins is our starting QB for the next 3 seasons, guaranteed. Barring a catastrophic collapse and total overhaul that would probably involve us sending out draft picks just to move him.
I'm not super mad about this, but I wish I felt happier about it than I do.

2 questions:

So if it lowers the cap hit this year 10 million we have to assume that 10 million will be paid out over then next 2 years right?  so if he is looking at a 32 million average over the next 3 years can we assume that his hit next year will be over 35 million, closer to 37 to 40?  

also,  if this year was already guaranteed,  and his new deal has 61 of 63 guaranteed,   he is basically guaranteed his money for the next 3 years,  so essentially another fully guaranteed deal?

its not as bad as I was anticipating,  but that 45 milllion for 2022 is guaranteed against injury so we better freaking pray that he doesnt get a major injury or we will be screwed.

I feel like it was a political move so the media stops harping on his "fully guaranteed deal" lol. Although this deal by structure is... wait for it... fully guaranteed.

Well, they could trade him after this season and save 10 mil on cap for 2021.  The other team would have him for 21 mil and 35 mil.

I think they could even trade him after 2022 becomes fully guaranteed too.

The other team would be on the hook.

They at the very least gave themselves options and provided Cousins with a virtual "fully guaranteed deal".

I feel like based on the contract structure and lack of a no trade clause I'd give the deal something between a B & B+. Cousins did not reset the QB market, its saves the Vikings $10M in cap space this off-season and gets them back to the $31M number when the cap is expected to rise by $20+M. If you compare the deal and market in 2018 when he signed his deal, this is much much better for the Vikings.

so what happens to his no trade clause,   is that still in effect for him or could we trade him if we stumble onto a stud QB?

I believe the no twade cwall was ewiminated
