I think it was a very clever carrot that the owners used to get a big chunk of players to vote for this deal regardless of anything else. The owners figured out they had a block of players who could be isolated as "single issue voters"...

I'm wondering if the new rule that puts the franchise tag on a player that has his 5th year option picked up devalues first rounders a bit. I'm thinking specifically in the case where teams dig back in to the back of the 1st to draft a developmental QB.
