Vikings GM Rick Spielman says 'there's no reason' to think Stefon Diggs won't stay with VikingsThe 26-year-old receiver has removed all pictures of himself in a Vikings uniform from his Instagram account.

By  Ben Goessling Star TribuneINDIANAPOLIS
– Vikings General Manager Rick Spielman did his best to quash speculation about Stefon Diggs’ future on Tuesday, saying at the NFL combine “there’s no reason to anticipate is not going to be a Minnesota Viking.”
Diggs caused a stir on social media earlier this month when he removed all pictures of himself in a Vikings uniform from his Instagram account, following a season where he incurred more than $200,000 in fines for skipping two days of meetings and practices following the team’s Week 4 loss to the Chicago Bears. His absence, sources told the Star Tribune at the time, stemmed from frustrations that had been building since the spring over the direction of the offense and his role in it.
The 26-year-old wide receiver gave an enigmatic news conference after his return, saying “there’s truth to all rumors” when asked about his unhappiness, but finished the year with a career-high 1,130 receiving yards while establishing himself as one of the NFL’s top deep threats in the Vikings’ play action offense. His recent social media actions caused a stir, even for a player given to maintaining a cryptic online presence.
Diggs’ five-year, $72 million contract runs through 2023.
“Stefon, last year, had probably his most productive year, and he’s a young receiver we just extended ,” Spielman said in his first public comments since November. “He’s not only a major part of our offense and a major part of our organization winning games, but he also does a lot of things for this organization off the field. There’s no reason — the rumors or whatever you’re talking about — to anticipate that Stefon Diggs is not going to be a Minnesota Viking. When you have some of the offensive talent that we have, with him and Thielen together, with and Irv Smith, with Dalvin Cook and Mattison, we have a pretty good support cast around our quarterback.”
When asked if Diggs wanted to be in Minnesota, Spielman said he had not spoken with Diggs’ agent since the end of the season. Such a meeting could occur this week at the combine; if it does, Spielman said, he will keep the contents to himself.
Spielman’s comments came just over seven years after the general manager famously said the Vikings “have no intent” to trade Percy Harvin, weeks before they dealt him to Seattle for three draft picks. On Tuesday, though, he cast questions about Diggs’ future in Minnesota as speculation.
“No disrespect to your profession, but there are a lot of things that get reported that get sensationalized that maybe shouldn’t be,” he said. “Regardless, we’re going to handle anything we have internally.”
The team has 17 unrestricted free agents, and Spielman said he would meet with “most” of the agents for those players.

“I’m not going to say who is or isn’t part of the future yet,” Spielman said. “I don’t know."

I've said it before, but I expect Diggs will be wearing the jersey of the other "purple team" come opening weekend.

"We drafted Percy Harvin here," Spielman said. "He's a key part of our organization. He's a key part of our football team. Any issues that are out there or reported, we always handle those internally and continue to handle those internally."

I think there are likely a lot of contingency deals that are in place every year that fans never learn about because the situations dont come together to make the trades work.

Harvin's situation was different. He just did an interview about 5 months ago and he admitted he was more than a handful to deal with. Anger issues and smoked weed constantly. But having said that, this is exactly what Spielman would say if he had plans to trade him. I'm skeptical, I think he's staying in Minnesota.

I'd love for Diggs to stay, but getting tired of this sophomoric crap.  One would think that $72 million would garner a certain amount of devotion or at least....appreciation or class.

Wanna play in Baltimore?  Congrats you've been traded to the Bengals.

I sure don't want to lose Diggs. Nothing he has done yet is that over the top as far as...you need to get this guy out of here type stuff. He enjoys being cute and the center of attention. Drama creator like that pretty girl who knows it and wants people to notice.
I like me some down and Earthy. I'm damn tired and too old for drama but hey, it's not like till death do us part.
Unless he does more then what he's doing now. Dont trade him.
Can't we just ignore the flibbertigibbet?

It's funny you say congrats you've been traded to the Bengals because I'm a firm believer that if a guy does demand a trade, you trade him to a place that you: A. Get a good return in the trade and B. Send that player to a crappy team.

I'm not saying I want this to happen, this is simply my overall opinion for all players who demand trades...especially if you are the team who drafted the player.

I take the best offer as long as it is out of the division,  preferably out of the conference.  screwing the player would be way way down the list unless they were total dipshits in how they go about asking for a trade... AD... would have been a Brown.  ( and I liked AD )

I don't understand why people compare this to the Harvin trade, in terms of circumstances and especially fair compensation - even on the radio today someone said "if we could get a 1st and 3rd". Shouldn't you compare it to the deal the Browns gave for Beckham Jr.? That was a high 1st and 2 young players who had been first round picks and successful in the NFL. Is Beckham better than Diggs? Statistically, sure - but Beckham is a far bigger headache ff-field and his contract is nearly at the QB level. A lot of people would still argue Beckham is better than Diggs, but 3 times better? No way.

If we get a late #1 and a 3rd for Diggs, we have not improved this team by any means. I would say a deal like that means a great player forced his way out of here, and others will try to follow the first time they don't like how the team is performing or how they are being used.

I'll say it again. Look at the syntax regarding Spielman's comments about Harvin and then Diggs.

He basically announced the trade at the Combine.

...and honestly, that's what a GM is supposed to do: hide his true intentions to gain maximum value.

I still feel the same. Nothing he did was so over the top that one looks at him and says. You need to get him out of here.
Did the team do a good job of keeping the real level of discontent between player and team or player and players in house? Now it sounds likely.
Rick played a mean hand of poker. It's all in the face

The Bills were one of the teams inquiring on Stefon Diggs in the fall. And they were one of 3 or so reaching out to Minnesota Monday (Diggs didn't formally ask for a trade).

Vikings' model for this trade, I'm told, was the haul they got Percy Harvin in 2013. This one's similar.

The Patriots were another team that talked to the Vikings about Stefon Diggs on Monday. The Redskins had interest, too, but their draft pick situation (they weren't going to trade the second overall pick, and have no second-rounder) made it tough.

So Buffalo it is.
