  • Ravens QB Lamar Jackson has been named the AP Most Valuable Player.Jackson is just the second unanimous MVP winner ever. The only QB in NFL history to average at least 80 rushing yards per game was one of just eight players regardless of position to accomplish that feat in 2019, as Jackson truly offered the potential to provide both QB1 and RB1 production in the same week throughout the season. Perhaps most impressive was simply the manner that Jackson continuously picked up his yards on the ground, as his 42 broken tackles were easily the most in the league among all non-RBs (PFF). Nobody provided more ankle-breaking goodness and big-play ability on a week-to-week basis. Of course, Jackson also demonstrated elite ability as a pure passer throughout the season. Only Ryan Tannehill (10.2), Matthew Stafford (9.1) and Patrick Mahomes (8.9) averaged more adjusted yards per attempt than Jackson (8.9) in 2019.

Congrats to Lamar. He's a hero in Baltimore, so good for that fan base and I guess the NFL too.

He's certainly the poster child (along with Mahomes) for this age of athletic QB's who can pass too.

I personally think Mahomes is more well rounded, but he's also been playing pro longer.

It'll be interesting to see how DC's game-plan for Jackson and how he responds in the long-run (if he has a long-run) with that playing style.

Yup...is he another RG 3, or does he morph into something more sustainable...

This is Mahomes league now. I believe the NFL will adjust just fine to Lamar.

Just curious as to why you believe the league will adjust to Jackson.

I would say its because the league always has shown an ability to adjust to something or someone that sets it on its ear.  Somebody will stumble across something that slows or limits Jacskon and the copycat league will ride it until he either overcomes or they find some other way to take advantage of what defenses are doing.

Vick broke a leg
RG3 and Culpepper  blew out their knees
Cam Newton has been beaten up physically.

Jackson has amazing talent.

But in the NFL, that kind of QB play hasn't been sustainable.

 We'll see?

Vick was figured out. Most defenses figure out a way to try and make him beat you with his arm. His play wont hold up IMO.

The football gods created those 5 lummox's in front of the QB for a reason.  To traverse beyond their protective shade is to proceed at ones peril.
The notable exception is, of course, the offensive line of the Minnesota Vikings. ;)
