only a legend announces his announcing of his retirement.
good for him he has nothing more to prove and his skillset is diminishing
I live in Giant country and hate Giants fans ... but hats off to him. A great teammate and player ... and it seems a very good guy.
IMHO Eli is a complete badass.
NY media wanted him run out of town on a rail, he goes on to win a SB in 2008.
The team struggles and again NY fan wants Eli sent packing and he wins a SB again in 2012.
I don't recall any athlete facing such pressure and then winning a championship, Eli did it twice.
didnt Eli win a big championship game @ Lamblow one year?
That deserves a salute from us Viking fans...
A good person and a very good QB. Easy dude to root for. He's earned his retirement.

Was that Favre's last INT as a Packer?
It's gonna feel a little weird not having a Manning in the NFL.
I hear there's a grandson in High School lighting it up.

Yup. Ice Bowl 2. Beat Favre and went on to beat the Pats.

apparently I am the only one that thinks eli was a little bitch?

@"BarrNone55" said:thank you. I lost all respect for the manning family over that move. same reason I hated horseface. I never once cheered for Denver when he was there and when they did win it made the loss to the falcons that much worse as I think we would have beaten the damn donkeys.@"JimmyinSD" said: apparently I am the only one that thinks eli was a little bitch? Nope. The way he forced his way to NY was a bitch move.i cant stand entitled people that use their positions as leverage to further improve their situations and give themselves opportunities that nobody else gets. I really wanted the chargers to call his bluff and force him to sit out that year and re-enter the draft.

I remember watching that game. It sticks out not only because of the Giants winning, but because of how biased the officiating was. There were a handful of calls, non-calls, reviews that were overturned, etc. where you thought, "Well, surely the refs have eyes. There's no way they can't see that", only to have the Packers get a gift and stay in that game way longer than they deserved to.

I watched that game in its entirety today (bored at work) and it was one where, due to the cold, anyone could have won. Fumbles, dropped passes...ugly. Eli's receivers had hands of frozen stone 'cept for Burress. He threw some worm burners as did Favre. Favre had over 100+ yards in the first half...90 on a TD to Driver when the d-back fell down. He had only 21 in the second half. I don't think GB got over 30 yards rushing. In a cold, brutal game Eli outplayed Favre. And Favre's last pass as a Puker is not forgotten in Cheezeville. ;)

Big brother comes to li'l brothers defense...
I remember going to the "jersey store" at the Mall of America my senior year of high school, thinking it was so freakin cool to see jerseys hanging up for pretty much every team in the league. Not only that, I was stunned they had jerseys of the recent draft picks. I conjured up all the money I had on me at the time and walked out of there with a white Eli Manning jersey.
Brings back some memories... man. I enjoyed rocking jerseys of players I liked on different teams - made me feel like a real cool guy back in my teenage years... lol. and... it was #10. A Viking number.

The problem is he would have and the Chargers would have been empty. Not like Eli had to worry about getting the money right away.
Elway did it. Bo Jackson did it to Tampa. Teams should listen when a player says don't draft me. Unless they don't have money or another option they just might call the teams bluff.
Now days however with the new rookie contract structure it doesn't benefit the players to wait one year longer to get out of that rookie deal.

Jackson was fucked over by Tampa and that caused him to lose his senior season of baseball, he didnt refuse to play for Tampa out of preference, he just didnt want to play for liars. They told him that his visit after the draft wouldn't affect his college baseball eligibility and that it was cleared with the NCAA, tampa lied and Bo got pissed....never piss Bo off.
The manning's wanted NY for Eli for a couple of reasons, primarily they wanted the NY big market endorsement money opportunities, and they wanted Eli in the NFC to potentially set up a brother vs brother superbowl and the huge endorsement exposure that would have created.
