With the 25th pick in the 2020 draft....
A useful tweet from everyone's favorite...another sign of the apocalypse
The #Vikings will pick No. 25 in the draft for the seventh time. They took guard John Ward in 1970, tackle Steve Riley in 1974, DE Mark Mullaney in 1975, DT James White in 1976, DT Chris Hovan in 2000 and CB Xavier Rhodes in 2013Lots of different ways this team could go. Just off the top of my head:
Offensive Line- Too inconsistent yet again despite changes. We can go a lot of directions here and could need up to two new starters. Elflein was clearly the weak link and probably more of a swing backup at guard and center. Do we flip O'Neil to LT if Reiff is a cap casualty? Lot's of moving parts but we clearly need to continue to look to upgrade the offensive line, especially after the showing against the 49ers.
Defensive Tackle- Not having a true 3 technique that could disrupt hurt our overall defense. Shamar Stephen is more of a run stopper and only had 1 sack on the year. Linval is still stout against the run but will be 32 next year. We need a disrupter in the middle that opposing lines need to account for.
Quarterback- Cousins has one more year on his deal and not sure what the plan is beyond that. We have nobody in the pipeline that has the talent to develop into a starter. This would be the ideal season to draft our quarterback of the future and have him sit behind Cousins for a season.
Cornerback- Crazy to believe considering the investment we have made in the position since Zimmer has been here. Xavier Rhodes is not the same player and its probably time to move on from him. He will be 30 next June and not worth what he is getting paid. Trae Waynes and Mackenzie Alexander are both unrestricted free agents. So the reality is our starting nickel package could all be playing elsewhere next season.
Kirk Cousins and Dalvin Cook's new best friend.

See the article at the bottom where someone is comparing him to Bryant McKinnie... not sure that's a good thing lol.

I think as long as we keep him in dry land we'll be ok.
Is it likely we'll draft nothing but OT's, OG's and DT's?? Can I put in a request???

Hopefully, Mrs. Spielman intercedes on our behalf again.

I think that's the case...there just aren't a lot of guys that size that can move like that...
For what its worth, because you know trader Rick will move off some of these picks:
(Vikings picks)
1. (25)
2. (57)
3. (89)
4.
(No 5th round pick. Traded to Baltimore for punter who was cut in preseason)
6.
7.(from MIA for Danny Isidora)
7.
Plus a 3, 6, and 7 potentially from Comp picks...

Wasn't he a high energy guy with lots of potential? What the hell happened to him? Injuries derail his career? The #Vikings will pick No. 25 in the draft for the seventh time. Rick Spielman closer to owning entire seventh round ;)
I hate to say it but I think it has to be a corner. Rhodes won't be back. And I've heard that Alexander wants to test the market, and likely won't be back. Waynes will get much more than he's worth. Can we afford it? Can we afford to lose all three starting corners? Making matters worse, there seems to be some sort of low key buzz going around that Mike Hughes' neck injury is serious--does this mean career threatening?

Don't think we can lose all three.

And I won't be the least bit surprised if we go CB.

Give anything to avoid it and draft a starting OL. The strength (or engine) of this team has clearly switched to the offensive side with our receivers, back and QB. We have to find a way to make it go. Maybe we can grab a couple of cheap free agent CBs to fill in there until it can be rebuilt. As long as CBs take to develop in Zimmer's system, it might make more sense to go the experienced route. We can free up about $37M in cap space by releasing Reiff, Joseph, Griffen and Rhodes. But that quickly starts to disappear when you add in Harris, Cook, Waynes....Still, sure would be nice to fit a Scherff-shaped puzzle piece in there somewhere to go along with a starting tackle from the draft.
has to be oline or dline. that is where games are won. But picking at 25 probably comes down to whats available.
DT would be my preference. Generating interior pressure makes things easier for the rest of the D. I could also see an OT or another CB in the mix. I hate how little longterm we are getting for how much we invested in CB. It will be interesting to see what they do with cuts and FA, the D could look very different next year. I’d really like to keep Harris and we need to keep at least one of Waynes and Alexander.
