OT: Once a Upon a Time in Hollywood
He seems to be focused on rewriting history with this movie and Inglorious Basterds. Kind of an odd thing but I thought the movie was decent.
damn shame. I thought it was clever, a fairytale positive spin of a grim story.
Pitt and Leo were great and goddamn there was some eye candy in this flick
In my eyes it was better than the Hateful Eight, KB Vol 2, and Django
It's easy to be a sideline critic of course, but I agree it's my least favorite. And the "fixes" would have been so simple.
I think this easily could've been pretty good if he'd have cut it down by 30 minutes. Tarantino is a genius, but like most, he falls into the ego trap. His dialogue he writes is brilliant but... less is more sometimes. I saw it months ago, but a scene I remember was with Leo and the little girl on the porch in the Western town. That dragged on, wasn't necessary to the plot, wasn't interesting/funny... Cutting out "the fat" would bump the rating up quite a bit.
The plot itself wasn't bad. I actually enjoy a movie that wanders and focuses on characters as long as their stories are interesting. I didn't care about any of them really. This one just missed the mark for me.

No other director is like this with me, but I either love his movies or despise them. On the love side are Basterds, Django and Jackie Brown. On the hate side, pretty much everything else, but especially Hateful Eight (had to turn that one off) and the Kill Bills.
Loved this movie and I've been meaning to redbox it and re-watch it. So much fun, I thought. Great acting by everyone and a breezy watch for me. Probably my favorite movie of the year actually, or close.
Pulp Fiction is my all time favorite Tarentino movie. Hell, one of my top 5 from anyone of all time.
Sounds like the only thing we'll agree on regarding Tarentino movies is Margot Robbie...

Or Maybe Uma???

Tarantino Says ‘Kill Bill Vol. 3’ Is ‘Definitely in the Cards’ but Would Be Years Away"I have an idea now that could be interesting," Tarantino tells Andy Cohen about a third installment of his beloved "Kill Bill" franchise.
“I just had dinner with Uma Thurman last night,” Tarantino told Cohen. “We were at a really cool Japanese restaurant. I do have an idea of what I would do with . That was the whole thing, conquering the concept. What has happened to The Bride since then? And what do I want to do?”
Watched this last night with my kids. I said above I either love QT's movies or hate them. This one's definitely on the love list. I'd heard someone somewhere say they didn't like the 2nd half of the movie, so I kept waiting for it to take a down turn, but it only got better.
Fun how he re-wrote the crime scene. My kids were laughing so hard at that they were LITERALLY rolling on the floor. If only it had really happened that way.
I liked it, Pitt and Decaprio performances were brilliant, basically they play caricatures of themselves and look like they are having a blast doing it. This alternate history is just for entertainment not any social commentary. Never thought there could be a humorous tale about that event.
I really liked it. I wasn't sure how much I liked it until is was over though. Was it a favorite QT movie? Probably not, but it had it's moments. Brad Pitt kicking Bruce Lee's ass was funnier than shit. B)
Adding the Stones was just a bonus for me. I almost had forgotten how much I love "Out of Time" and I loved how well it fit with this movie.

I'm 80 minutes in. Not sure if I should finish or get my gums scraped.

Side commentary - the problem with alternative/revisionist history is that a good amount of people believe those versions and not the actual facts, but I digress :)

I agree Minny hollywood is fast and loose with history in general but most historical movies end the same way as the real history. But as the younger generations tend to get thier history from entertainment it bugs me a bit. To totally change the outcome of this tragic story I am hesitant to be thrilled about this trend. QT is brilliant and I liked his ending even though the violence approached the absurd which was his point.
I finished, but it was a struggle.
*softball*
Felt like this could have been done in 120 minutes...when the date and timestamps started appearing I thought "here we go"...it was ok, ending was creative, but I would watch Pulp Fiction 15 times before even considering watching this again...

Um....really?
When Pitt finally picked up the street-corner hitcher....and she offered her 'services'....your kids watched that?
Hopefully your kids were asleep by then. :)
I generally love QT movies (never in theatre, refuse to spend the $$) He (QT) never assumes I'm an idiot with plot/dialogue.
Beats most of Hollywood pablum.

My kids are 13, not 6. They know what a prostitute is.

The strong violence ... when does Hollywood recognize their contribution to desensitizing kids?Or do these school shooters watch Hallmark movies while playing the WII?
I will watch with my son this weekend ... even though Barr’s advice rings true. Hollywood thinks the longer the movie is, the better.
I loved a beautiful day in the neighborhood if everyone is looking for something a little more wholesome.
Fred Rogers was an awesome individual.
Watched the movie ... actually thought it was well done. It was very long, but didn’t take away from the movie like many long ones do.
Although the theme was certainly for mature audiences, I was surprised for a QT movie that it seemed pretty tame compared to what it could have been.
The ending was different ... but I was bracing for the more violent truth.
Cast was very good I thought.
