Rick And Zimmer Get A Vote Of Confidence
MIKE ZIMMERC, MINNESOTA VIKINGS
Vikings owner Mark Wilf said, "We have every intent of Mike continuing as the head coach."Wilf's full statement was, "We value Mike and Rick’s leadership and we have every intent of Mike continuing as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings and Rick leading our football operations, next year and beyond." Zimmer has ripped off five consecutive winning seasons, but is just 1-2 in the playoffs since taking the job in 2014.

It will be interesting to see if either gets extended beyond 2020...an extension will mean a lot more than a sound bite...
I've made very clear my opinion on this. They'd be damned fools for getting rid of Rick. With Zimmer I can at least understand the conversation.
Either way, "intent" is the operative word here. It's used a lot. Mostly by politicians. "I have no intention of running for president." Sometimes by GMs: "We have no intention to trade Percy Harvin."
I guess as long as the owners make money they do not care if the team is stuck in mediocrity
@"kmillard" said: looks like the kiss of deathThat’s the first thing I thought. I don’t want to lose either of them. I know people knock RS but look at the draft of last year. And Zim—well, he has problems ( game adjustments and clock management to name 2) but I don’t want players to go through the adjustments of a whole new coaching staff—learning yet another new system etc. For what? Another unknown situation? No, I’ll take Zim warts and all.
Zimmer and Spielman aren't going anywhere before the end of next season. Even with a blowout loss to NO.
Zimmer/Spielman/Cousins are tied together either as a flotation device or an anchor. Let's see which one it turns out to be.
I have a feeling a blow-out loss may initiate more change than we think possible in "laid-back" MN.
Kind of surprised they didn't wait till after Sundays game to give the endorsement.

Either a terrible distraction or the players rally to support their coach in a way many didnt think probable.
The chatter is too much and is distracting. I can see why players and coaches tune everything out when they have a job to do that's immediately in front of them. I've had enough of it even as a fan.
I could hope they are being strategic and setting things up to fleece Jerry Jones and promote Stefanski. But I would never give them that much credit. When it comes to running a football team they are 16-year proven dopes.

But the timing of the statement would be right if that is what they were thinking.
I would be surprised if Spielman and Zimmer aren't given at least one more year to flounder with the Cousins decision.
I wouldn't even be surprised if everybody got an extension; Spielman, Zimmer, and Cousins!
And though I don't see that working out so well, I guess we have to ride it out and see. I would love to see them prove me wrong!
