Defining moment for Cousins

IMO, its unfair that this is the narrative about Kirk Cousins. He's held to a different standard than other QBs in this vein. But it certainly won't change without some playoff wins. We live in a hyper-critical social media world with talking heads that are about headlines and gotcha takes in a 24/7 sports cycle. 

I don't see Kirk escaping this box they've put him in. But he does have $84 million guaranteed, so I'm going to guess he's going to be alright with it when its all said and done.

He's not transcending enough to lift an entire team by himself. But I'd argue he's still the best QB we've had since Favre.

I've avoided mentioning this all season to avoid cursing him, but one of the things that is often overlooked about Cousins is how durable he is. I don't have numbers in front of me but I'm pretty sure he hasn't missed a start in 5 seasons. Considering our history with Teddy, Sam, Daunte, etc., that's a quality that shouldn't be discounted. 

He's capable but is risk averse in the big moments. That makes him a good QB stat wise but doesn't equate to wins.
If he would take more risk in the big moments he could be great or fail miserably. I don't see a tiger changing his spots, so to speak! So he is what he is.
He has another year with the Vikings so they better get a better O-line. Cousins can win with a strong running game.
Going forward I think the Defense is going to be more of a problem than Cousins. Cousins had already been defined.

Overall, Kirk has had a great year, but in the big games he wilted.  The two GB games and the earlier Chicago game he inexplicably went into a shell and played awful.  He did the same thing last year.  All the great ones have bad days and it is unfair to say Kirk does not get a pass here and there, however at 0-9 MNF and 6-30 against teams with winning records, his poor play in big games has been pretty consistent so the narrative is fair and it isn't all about the 84 million, all QBs are evaluated by their ability to lead a team to wins.  

We have all seen how great Kirk can be, he has all the tools and I am optimistic that he will turn things around and play like he is capable of this Sunday and lead us to the win and hopefully start a positive streak in the big games, one that will last the final 4 games this year.  

I thought Kirk was viable. I never thought he was great. I too thought he was the best we've had since Farve. That said, the best since is only a statement about how poor our situation has been as much has how good Kirk's being...mostly. What good is great numbers when they don't come when most needed. That's his knock.

This is not career defining. If he wins it means he dented his poor record of coming through when it matters. That's what we paid for right? Could have stayed with Case if good sometimes was enough.
If he loses it doesn't define anything either.  Only reinforces.
If he does well and the team loses. Unfortunately it still goes on his bad record. It also goes on Mikes poor record of having his team ready for big games. 
Both are defined already. All the can do is begin changing perception.
