So.....what do you think?
Kind of weird. As PF mentioned in another thread, strange feeling winning 10 games but really no momentum or feeling of fan excitement heading into the playoffs. U.S. Bank sounded quiet and dead for most of the game yesterday with the backups in. 2-4 in the division and 3 games behind Green Bay for the NFCN title. Putrid record against winning teams. Shrinkage by Cousins with the bright lights on.
On the road against New Orleans: interesting game honestly. Would love to see the staff just release the hounds and get crazy. Nothing to hold back for. Go down swinging. Trying to look at the glass as having some water in it yet.
I am really really trying to see the glass as half full but it's really hard especially after watching the Saints, Seahawks and 49ers play yesterday.
I'll keep trying
I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm ready for the playoffs!!! Let's get CRAZAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!
BOOM
Might be wrong but I think we're going see a much better team against the Aint's.
I think the Saints are probably a little nervous that they drew a team like the Vikings--a wildly inconsistent team capable of both remarkable greatness and utter ineptitude. And you never know which one will show up.
But which Saints team shows up? The one that scored nearly 200 points in its last 4 games or the one that was blown out by the Falcons and Rams?
Does our run game get back on track with Dalvin and Mattison? Does our offensive line play like it did most of the season? Or like it did against Green Bay? Malcom Brown is OK, but he's no Kenny Clark. Do Cousins and Stefanski remember #19 plays for this team? Can Rhodes continue to keep Michael Thomas from going off? He's actually played fairly well against him in the past.
It will be interesting to see which Vikings team Zim brings to New Orleans. Saints are a little banged up in the back end, while the Vikings should be as healthy as they've been all year.
I think the Saints will play the clip of the Mpls Miracle repeatedly in their locker room this week and be highly motivated.

This is exactly the reason for fan hope - and trepidation.
At big moments? Zimmer's teams tend to...shrink
Trying to be optimistic, but with the regression of our CBs I think Brees and Thomas are going to have a field day against us.
Starting to feel like Zimmer is the defensive version of Denny Green: good enough to make playoffs, get exposed for ignoring the other side of the ball, 1 & done in playoffs.

Same here. the end of year preseason game was disinteresting. But playoffs? Playoffs!!!? Gotta love the playoffs.

Vikings won't be able to stop Kamara and as a result Brees will pass at will.
Cousins will go into self preservation mode, as he does in all big pressure games, and instead of taking any risks, will check down until he is so far behind he can't catch up. He will end up with good stats and another loss.
That's what I think. What I hope for is something entirely different and may be a fantasy that not only includes a dominating and embarassing win against the Saints, but also a good solid hit on Sean Peyton along the sidelines as payback for 2009-2010.
Actually I am feeling good about the matchup. If the Vikings are on the path to the Superbowl is decent. If we can get past the saints, which I think we can do, the Vikings can beat all the others in the playoffs.
I think this game will ultimately make Kevin Stefanski the 2020 head coach and john dorsey the GM.

Pretty much sums it up for me as well.
Fun to have a reason to get together with people. That's about it.
Its going to be interesting to see how this plays-out...
10/6 isn't that terribly disappointing...But I'll bet Zygi and Mark aren't terribly impressed either.
I wonder if the Wilfs have a good system in place to "measure what matters" as they assess the year whenever/however the it ends?
I dont think Zimmer has to win in NOLA to keep his job. But a playoff melt-down? On top of getting swept by GB and Chicago? Thats not a good year - on top of last season too.
Its going to uncomfortable hellos in the hallowed Eagan Palace hallways in 2020...Otoh, that staff, ownership and our fanbase truly deserve a championship too.

Agree. I don't think he has to win necessarily. But if the Vikings get embarrassed, ala two weeks ago or week 17 last year or in Philly two years ago, things are gonna get dicey in Eagan.
No 11-win coach deserves a pink slip, especially one who has taken his team to the playoffs 3 out of the last 5 years. But if you look at this thing objectively, and in proper perspective of the rest of the NFL, you see a roster stacked with talent, but who has a handful of games every season where they just seem out-smarted, out-schemed...where the game plan the Vikings drew up was just completely wrong.

No11-10 win coach deserves a pink slip, especially one who has taken his team to the playoffs 3 out of the last56 years. (you could have said 2 of 3 sounds better yet)

Sure, it will go down in history as 10 wins and no one will remember that the Vikings didn't play to win their final game. But for purposes of team and coach evaluation, this was an 11-win team. It's a shame we lost on a last second field goal, considering how our 3rd string very clearly outplayed the Bears starters.
